Software Engineer & Systems Analyst

Job Description The Software Engineer & Systems Analyst Process and Automation Engineer is responsible for identifying inefficiencies in business processes and implementing automation solutions that improve workflow, productivity, and cost-effectiveness. They work closely with cross-functional teams to streamline operations, deploy automation tools, and ensure that systems are running smoothly. The primary goal is to optimize and automate repetitive tasks and complex processes across the organization, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Process Optimization:

Analyze existing processes and workflows to identify areas of improvement and opportunities for automation.

Design and implement automation solutions to increase process efficiency and reduce human error.

Automation Deployment:

Develop, configure, and maintain automation scripts and tools, leveraging Python, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.

Integrate automation solutions with various platforms, ensuring robust, scalable deployments.

Utilize Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC) implementations.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

Collaborate with stakeholders from different departments to understand process pain points and develop customized automation strategies.

Provide technical guidance and support to teams adopting new automation tools.

Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement:

Monitor the performance of automated processes, ensuring they operate effectively and efficiently.

Gather feedback and assess the impact of automation on business outcomes, continuously improving solutions.

Documentation and Reporting:

Create and maintain detailed documentation of process improvements and automation projects, including workflows, scripts, and performance metrics.

Report regularly to management on project progress, outcomes, and opportunities for further automation.

Top 3-5 Deliverables:

Automation Development: Lead the development of Python automation scripts and tools, focusing on optimizing IT operations and reducing manual intervention.

Mentorship and Technical Leadership: Act as a technical mentor to other engineers, providing guidance and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

System Integration: Integrate automation solutions with various IT systems, ensuring seamless operation and minimal disruption.

Testing and Debugging: Participate in the testing and debugging of automation scripts and tools, ensuring they function correctly and meet the specified requirements.

Hiring Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Experience: 3-5 years of experience in process improvement, automation engineering, or a related field.

Technical Skills: Proven experience in Python scripting, Git, CI/CD, and Terraform.

Certifications: Relevant certifications in Python standards, Terraform, Cloud engineering, and process improvement are highly desirable.

Knowledge of Methodologies - Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or Agile methodologies for continuous process improvement.

Hard Skills:

Python: Proficiency in Python, with a strong command of writing clean, maintainable code. (Required)

API Development: Understanding of good, RESTful API design

Version Control: Experience using Git for version control and collaboration.

CI/CD Pipelines: Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) methodologies.

Terraform: Familiarity with Terraform for infrastructure automation.

Process Mapping: Expertise in mapping and analyzing workflows using tools like Visio, Lucidchart, or other process mapping software.

Cloud Engineering: Understanding of cloud-native and microservices-based solution design, leveraging technologies such as serverless functions, queues, API gateways, etc.; Intimate knowledge of cloud concepts such as the shared responsibility model, cloud service models, and the cloud pricing model.

The following hard skills, while not required, would be highly advantageous:

Database Management: Basic knowledge of SQL and other database technologies.

Python Standards: Knowledge of Python coding standards such as PEP 8

AI Development: Experience with AI-based systems is a plus.

ServiceNow: Familiarity with ServiceNow development is desirable.

Front-End or Full-Stack Development: Able to create front-ends or full-stack applications using modern web frameworks such as React, Remix, Next.js Svelte/SvelteKit, Vue/Nuxt, etc.

Soft Skills:

Problem-solving: Ability to identify inefficiencies and devise solutions to improve processes.

Requirements Gathering: Ability to engage the right stakeholders and ask the right questions to ensure automations meet the needs of the organization

Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery.

Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to analyze complex workflows and data to recommend process improvements.

Adaptability: Flexibility in adopting new tools and processes, responding to evolving business needs.

Certifications (optional but advantageous):

Terraform Certification: Associate or Authoring and Operations Professional

ServiceNow Certified: Certified Application Developer (CSA), Certified System Administrator (CSA), or other certification from ServiceNow

Cloud Associate or Engineer Certification from AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or other cloud service providers
