We are seeking an experienced software engineering leader to serve as the Software Engineering Manager. In this role, you will guide a talented team of software engineers, driving engineering best practices while ensuring successful delivery of high impact software solutions. You will provide technical guidance, foster professional growth, and help implement strategic initiatives created by senior leadership. This role balances people leadership, technical decision-making, and execution to drive business impact.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering highly scalable and reliable software products both in a engineering role and as a the leader of high-performing teams. Experience collaborating with Senior Leaders, Product, Design, and Architecture is a plus as you will work closely with those team members. You must be passionate about developing and growing software engineering professionals. We want someone who thinks strategically and leads with energy and vision, inspiring the team to think big and deliver innovate software solutions.
About the Role
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration
Drive engineering best practices, ensuring high-quality and scalable software solutions
Work closely with Senior Leaders, Product, Design, and other stakeholders to align technical initiatives with business goals
Own team execution, managing priorities, timelines, and delivery milestones
Champion continuous improvement, reducing lead time to change and improving system reliability
Promote observability, automation, and DevOps best practices
Support hiring, onboarding, and retention of top engineering talent
Apply Lean/Agile values and principles to a software delivery team
Pull and create reports necessary to carry out the functions of the team and for senior leadership, as requested, to track strategic goal accomplishment
Communicate and embody the culture and mission of the company
Expectations
Schedule: Core business hours from 9-6, on-call support one week per month
Location: Detroit site preferred
Days Onsite: Monday & Tuesday
About You
5 years’ experience in a related field and related role
2+ years of leadership experience, either as an Engineering Manager, Team Lead, Tech Lead, or Senior Engineering with mentorship responsibilities
3+ years of hand-on engineering experience or proven understanding of technologies we use (e.g. React, TypeScript, Node.js, JavaScript, C#, .NET, SQL)
Experience in cloud computing (e.g. AWS, Serverless Architectures, Containers), and DevOps practices (e.g. CI/CD, IaC, Observability)
Experience using Agile and DORA metrics to improve team performance
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field or equivalent experience
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical challenges into business impact
