Software Licensing Analyst

Job Description

Job Title: Software Asset Management Analyst 

Location:  
 

Job Summary:
Analyzes license usage patterns.
Analyzes software asset deployment.
Conducts internal reviews of business units to be sure they are audit-ready.
Researches new license types and models usage scenarios that could affect the organization.
Analyzes and consolidates multiple data sets.
Manages BU partner relationships, where they touch on licensing; e.g. MS Partner Network relationships.


Measures of Success:

Software Asset Management:

Maintain a comprehensive inventory of all software assets, including licenses, contracts, and entitlements.

Track software installations, usage, and expiration dates to ensure compliance with licensing agreements.

Implement and manage SAM tools to monitor software deployment and usage across the organization.

License Compliance & Optimization:

Ensure that the organization complies with software licensing terms and conditions.

Analyze usage patterns and make recommendations for optimizing license purchases and renewals.

Collaborate with vendors to negotiate licensing agreements and resolve any discrepancies in software audits.

Auditing & Reporting:

Perform internal software audits to ensure compliance and identify potential risks.

Create regular reports detailing software usage, compliance status, and areas for cost savings.

Work with the finance department to forecast software-related costs and budget accordingly.

Vendor & Contract Management:

Manage relationships with software vendors, ensuring that contracts are up to date and accurately reflect the organization's needs.

Coordinate the renewal of software licenses and subscriptions, ensuring continuity of service.

Stay informed about changes in licensing models and advise the organization on potential impacts.

Collaboration & Communication:

Work closely with IT, procurement, legal, and finance teams to align software asset management strategies with organizational goals.

Provide training and guidance to employees on software usage policies and best practices.

Skills & Experience Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Business or Finance or equivalent job experience. 

Minimum of 3 years of related experience.

Conceptual knowledge of software licensing models.

Working knowledge of asset management principles and concepts applicable to software asset administration.

Proven research ability.

Experience in and extensive knowledge of the software procurement and delivery process.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Advanced knowledge of Excel or other data analysis tools used to coordinate and combine large data sets into actionable results.

Experience interpreting EULAs and licensing terms and conditions.

Experience in managing Customer and/or Vendor relationships.

Experience in managing small projects efficiently and to completion.

Experience with Microsoft Licensing: EA, SCE, MPSA, and SPLA.

Prior experience with Asset Management and Discovery Tools is a plus.

USU (Aspera) SAM experience is a plus
