Software QA Engineer
What You'll Do We are seeking a skilled and motivated Software QA Engineer to join our dynamic team at Avalara. As a QA Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our application. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to test planning and strategy, execute manual and automated test cases, and actively participate in process improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Test Automation: Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts using Selenium with Java. Ensure comprehensive test coverage across various application features. Integrate automated tests into Gitlab CI/CD pipelines to support continuous delivery. API Testing: Design and execute API tests to validate the functionality, reliability, and performance of backend services. Utilize tools like Postman, Rest Assured, or equivalent for API testing. Analyze API test results and work with developers to resolve defects. Test Planning & Strategy: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and understand project requirements. Develop detailed test plans covering all test types (functional, regression, performance, etc.). Create and maintain comprehensive test cases for a range of scenarios (positive and negative). Defect Tracking and Reporting: Identify, document, and track defects using issue-tracking tools such as JIRA. Work closely with developers to reproduce and resolve defects. Participate in defect triage meetings and provide detailed reports on testing status. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and other QA engineers, to ensure high-quality software releases. Participate in Agile ceremonies, providing input on test planning and estimation. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest testing tools, trends, and best practices. Provide suggestions for continuous improvement in QA processes. What You'll Need to be Successful Experience: 5-7 years of experience in software quality assurance. Strong experience with Selenium WebDriver and Java for automated testing. Proven experience in API testing using tools such as Postman, Rest Assured, or equivalent. Hands-on experience with the Gatling performance testing tool is a plus. Hands-on experience testing Salesforce UI is a huge plus. Experience with TestRail test case management is a plus. Technical Skills: Proficient in Java programming. Strong understanding of RESTful services and API testing methodologies. Familiarity with Gitlab CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Git, or equivalent. Good understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies. Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
