This candidate will work closely with a cross-functional agile team to test software as part of a transaction management and reporting system. This position will be hybrid remote and will work 20-40% on-site in Chantilly, VA as required. What you will do Lead a small group (~4) of Software QA Engineers. Review test cases for comprehensiveness and accuracy. Participate in test case walk-throughs, inspections, and peer reviews. Identify opportunities to automate testing and accelerate testing velocity. Represent QA during a bi-weekly project management review with the client. Develop and execute automated end-to-end tests. Perform manual and automated testing as a backup when other Software QA Engineers are unavailable due to time off. Perform typical Software QA Engineer duties, such as: Create test cases and test scenarios based on customer requirements and design documentation. Execute Functional, Regression, Performance, Usability, and User Acceptance tests. Take individual initiative and responsibility for task execution. Meet timelines while producing high quality products. Assist with acceptance criteria validation. Participate in sprint planning with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Developers to ensure the business requirements are understood fully. Contribute to test planning activities, including developing documentation and estimating testing needs. Log and track defects in JIRA from initial discovery to closure, working with developers to assess a defect’s severity and impact. Perform post-deployment validation. Take ownership of the test environment and collaborate with engineers to maintain its infrastructure and data, ensuring it remains optimized for efficient manual and automated testing. Write automation testing scripts and review those created by other QA engineers. Develop an understanding of the requirements, including how users interact with the product and how changes to the UI might impact users’ workflow. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and project team members. Troubleshoot software problems and escalating issues, as appropriate. Learn and apply new testing tools, technologies, and methodologies. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Appian and the Appian approach to testing. Identify testing best practices and process improvements. What you need to have Must have an active Secret security clearance. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years testing web-based applications (with at least 2+ years leading a team of QA Engineers). Experience creating and maintaining software test cases. Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing priorities. Experience with Software Quality Assurance concepts, practices, and procedures. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. A general understanding of popular backend and frontend technologies. Experience with Confluence and Jira. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. A commitment to accuracy and quality. Experience working as part of an Agile team in an Agile software development environment (like Scrum or SAFe). Experience automating end-to-end user tests. Familiarity with 508 accessibility testing. Knowledge and experience in various types of testing including smoke testing, integration testing, performance & load testing, regression testing, etc., as well as the tools to perform such testing, such as such as JMeter, Load Runner, Postman, etc. What we'd like you to have A technical degree. Experience testing an Appian-based application. Experience using Selenium or FitNesse. Experience using the Accessible Name & Description Inspector (ANDI) 508 accessibility tool. Experience working with Army data. Knowledge writing SQL queries. Experience with back-end testing, database testing, and test harness creation. Experience with GitLab. Experience testing APIs.
