Software Safety Engineer - BDS Air Proprietary 1 (Associate or Mid-Level)

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Software Safety Engineer (Levels 2 or 3) on the Air Dominance, Air Proprietary 1 (AP1) Program. 

The selected candidate will provide the technical guidance and perform critical system safety engineering work. The work will consist of planning, coordinating, and performing detailed Software Safety tasks such as system and subsystem hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, and software safety analysis to mitigate potential product safety hazards. In addition to working with System Safety personnel, the individual will work extensively with design, development, and test personnel to impart safety requirements early in the design process. These tasks are accomplished within a collaborative environment with other program teams to assist with and/or plan design, develop, and verify lifecycle balanced system solutions including resolution of multi-functional technical issues.

Position Responsibilities:

Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutionsPerform various analyses and integration activities to optimize total system of systems architecture for Software SafetyIdentifies, analyzes, and assesses regulatory and/or contractual compliance of aerospace systems, products and services against the applied development and design assurance standards (MIL-STD-882E, JSSEH, DO-178, DO-254) to provide the necessary hazard mitigation evidenceAnalyze software to identify potential failure conditions or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concernsIdentifies safety issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices (MIL STD-882E)Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety requirementsVerifies that the system meets or exceeds the defined safety requirements by conducting safety analyses, audits, and reviewsDemonstrates safety hazard risk mitigation and control methods to the customer and regulatorsResolve multi-functional technical issues

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Engineering or Computer ScienceExperience in related engineering fields, such as software engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

Experience with software requirements, software design, documentation and configuration controlExperience with software code development,  and testingExperience programming C/C++ software for real time embedded systemsElectrical Engineering experienceExperience in System and Software Safety

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range for Associate level (Level 2): $81,600 - $110,400

Summary pay range for Mid-level (Level 3): $97,750 - $132,250

Security Clearance

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required. This position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.
