Sky is one of Europe’s leading media and entertainment companies, and a part of Comcast Corporation, which also owns NBCUniversal (NBCU). We create award-winning original content, produce the biggest live sporting events and provide free access to news and the arts.  

We work on the Global Streaming Platform supporting various video on demand products such as Sky Showtime, Peacock and Showmax. 

Sky tech hub in Prague consists of around 100 people and it will keeps growing. These are mostly developers, video-streaming enthusiasts and experts, with extensive experience across markets, technology, and products working on the Global Streaming Platform. We are collaborating closely with our colleagues in the UK, Portugal and the US. 

What is the plot?  

We are looking for a Solution Architect to join Global Commerce and help drive improvements and new features on our global platform. This role strikes a balance between strategic  architecture and detailed solution design, ideal for experienced architects or lead/senior engineers poised to take the next step in their careers. 

Our department provides the identity platform used across the global streaming platform, along with the payment, product and subscription management systems (Sales), and customer relationship and account management systems (Service) and related services for tens of millions of Sky, NOW, and NBCU Peacock TV customers. We have an exciting roadmap of enhancements across multiple teams that you’ll support. 

What role will you play? 

As a Solution Architect you’ll be at the heart of defining world-class systems for Sky. You will provide architectural expertise and relevant technical experience, enabling the delivery of strategic solutions that support the wider platform direction. We will rely on your robust architectural foundation and the capability to collaborate across geographies (Prague, Lisbon, UK). You will collaborate early with product and analysts to identify real requirements, design solutions with pros and cons, and work with engineering and delivery teams to refine and communicate detailed designs, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of estimates. 

Your daily tasks: 

Working with product owners, analysts, security and principal engineers to understand the functional and non-functional requirements and business needs. 

Define innovative end-to-end solution designs for products for those requirements while meeting the strategic technology aims of the business. 

Ensure solution designs are clearly communicated to engineering teams allowing them to be refined, estimated and delivered. 

Assist delivery teams to implement the overall solution architecture, adjusting it as needed in the face of changes to the proposition through to product launch. 

Support the principal engineers to ensure  the team delivers simple solutions. 

Evangelising the architectural principles and solution roadmaps to bring consistency and best practice across the platform. 

Making good decisions about when to invest in building solutions ourselves, when to buy off-the-shelf and when to partner with 3rd parties. 

Collaborate with architects across Global Commerce and the wider Global Streaming business. 

What skills do you need to play your role well?  

Broad technical experience with a high understanding of modern architecture patterns and practices, especially within high-scale service-oriented platforms. 

Ability to make well-considered, pragmatic design decisions and to convince others as to the merits and reasons for those decisions. 

Demonstrable track record in the design and delivery of leading-edge strategic business solutions from concept through implementation. 

Ability to clearly define and document technical solutions. 

Balancing the ability to get the job done and maintaining a high-quality bar. 

An enthusiasm and aptitude for learning new skills and practices, constantly keeping up with the latest developments in the relevant field. 

Demonstrates exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, working with business and technical stakeholders. 

Experience with Microservices, integration, synchronous and asynchronous patterns, and RESTful APIs is preferred.  

Experience with AWS (or any other cloud solution) and Identity would be beneficial.
