The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

As the Solutions Engineer for this specific posting, you’ll be responsible for serving an experienced team as their senior technical lead and lead collaborative partner of the team’s Architect and Engineering Manager.

 

You will drive, structure, and facilitate technical decision making to shape actionable technical direction for the team from our Architectural Strategy and long term business plans. You will lead teams in creating robust middleware solutions, including APIs (GraphQL and REST), that guarantee high performance, reliability, and fault tolerance between the Platform APIs and the front-end experiences.

· Technical Expert: Highly experienced in architectural design, systems design, hands-on development, and relevant technical documentation. Enjoy working closely with business and architect partners to develop technical requirements, design and facilitate the team in implementing robust API solutions.

· Ambassador of Quality: Promote a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement. You coach others on the fundamentals of quality practices for engineering excellence. Lead teams in developing fluency in quality practices recognized currently in our industry such as HPE, SCORP, and respective documentation.

· Adept Communicator: You are fluent at summarizing the functionality of technical systems both in the context of the business capability they provide as well as how the components function independently and within a technical system. You adapt terminology and depth of topic for different audiences with ease such that you efficiently and effectively achieve the outcomes of the conversation at hand.

· Leader and Mentor: Leading cross-team groups and managing timely efficient communication has been part of your daily role. You are a master at mentoring and have a track record of effectively building skills in others.

Qualifications

Experience:

 

· 10+ years of related software engineering experience; 5 years at a Principal or higher engineer position preferred

· Extensive knowledge of software architecture, contemporary frameworks, and emerging technologies

· A comprehensive understanding of agile environments

· A history of practicing DevOps, CI/CD and building cloud-based applications

· A strong background in business operations and strategies, including knowledge of global business, technology trends and the financial services industry

Qualifications Skills

· Ability to identify patterns and problems across teams and deliver effective solutions

· Openness and adaptability to respond to fast-moving circumstances

· A design thinking and test-driven development mindset

· Excellent oral and written communication skills, and an aptitude for working in teams

· Solid negotiation, facilitation, consensus building and influencing capabilities

 

Knowledge:

· Expertise in API design and development

· Experience with GraphQL/SDL, specifically query and mutation design and development

· Experience in developing or architecting cloud-based, responsive web applications using Java, SpringBoot, Javascript/Typescript/Angular, and AWS technologies; knowledge of SQL and noSQL databases

· Familiarity with Event Driven Architectures and integration with API exposing microservices

· Deep understanding of layered solutions and designs

· Cognizance of security concerns, from access control and authentication to secured SDLC processes

 

Education:

 

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
