The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer performs patient assessments, acquires and analyzes data obtained using ultrasound, and uses independent judgment and systematic problem-solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic information and optimize patient care.
Part-time, 24 hours per week, benefit eligible position
Essential Duties:
1. Performs clinical assessment of the patient and conditions in order to select the appropriate equipment for the sonography examination based on established protocols to be followed.
2. Perform Two Identifiers and complete hand hygiene. Explains the test to the patient. Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination.
3. Demonstrates ability to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
4. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
5. Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.
6. Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to the area to be examined, the depth of field and other specifications of test. Is able to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic information.
7. Pull correct patient name from list on modality onto ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.
8. Moves transducer over specified area of the body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced. Uses independent judgment to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
9. Records diagnostic images and data for use by the interpreting physician for diagnosing and archival purposes.
10. Analyzes sonogram, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
11. Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.
12. Maintains accurate QC logs, Audits service records, etc.
13. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's or lead person’s instruction.
14. Completes ultrasound exams at Bennett Breast Care Center consistent with set policies and procedures.
15. Provides ultrasound call according to monthly schedule
16. Assists with daily operation of the ultrasound department
17. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
18. Customer Service: Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support, and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.
Education and experience:
+ Prefer two years of radiologic/imaging experience.
+ Specific experience and training in Ultrasound and proficient knowledge of Ultrasound Equipment ARDMS Registered or ARDMS candidate. Graduate of a CAAHEP-approved school of Ultrasonography, or has received education and clinical experience and demonstrated competence to obtain appropriate ARDMS certification within a year of hire preferred.
+ Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required. Recertification of existing employees is due within one month of expiration date
+ Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
