**Overview**
**Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center** is an 881-bed quaternary care academic medical center that is a joint venture between Baylor College of Medicine and CHI St. Luke’s Health. Located in the Texas Medical Center, the hospital is the home of the Texas Heart® Institute, a cardiovascular research and education institution founded in 1962 by Denton A. Cooley, MD. The hospital was the first facility in Texas and the Southwest designated a Magnet® hospital for Nursing Excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, receiving the award five consecutive times. **Responsibilities**
**Position Responsibilities**
+ Performs ultrasound exams on patients according to the specific departmental procedure protocols under the direction of the Medical Director
+ Prepares equipment ensuring that it is operational, safe and functioning according to diagnostic standards
+ Problem-solves equipment failure and imaging quality and contacts service representative or CES regarding equipment problems
+ Ensures that daily equipment and room maintenance are performed before/during/ after each procedure, and that special precautions and measures are performed to ensure infection control standards
+ Completes all quality checks and Ensures that equipment logs are maintained
+ Completes all clinical supply inventories, ensuring that each diagnostic room is complete with the necessary supplies required to perform the procedure
+ Demonstrates competency in PACS process and Performs the daily QA process
+ Actively Participates with patient testing, performing routine, non-routine, urgent, and emergent patient exams.
+ Communicates with Patient Transportation, Nursing Units, Physician Offices, and other diagnostic areas to ensure that the patients receive their diagnostic procedures in a smooth, efficient and safe manner
+ Performs portable examinations (when applicable) at the bedside to ensure patient safety as well as provide immediate diagnostic testing when needed
+ Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images
+ Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to Accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings
+ Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information with medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician
+ Assumes responsibility for the safety, emotional and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographers care
+ Assists with the daily operations of the ultrasound suite
+ Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations
+ Maintains a daily log of patient’s seen/ completes exam-billing forms
+ Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and Maintains adequate supplies
+ Participates in the maintenance of the ultrasound accreditation
**Qualifications**
**Education and Licensure:**
+ Associate’s Degree preferred
+ Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or ARRT;
+ CPR/BLS certification
**Experience:**
+ Previous experience preferred
**Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
+ Good alpha/numeric dexterity and handwriting skills
+ Interpersonal skills for communication with patients, visitors, physicians and other hospital personnel.
+ Must have good written and oral communication skills
**Pay Range**
$44.00 - $44.00 /hour
