Responsibilities
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Medical Director, Manager and Director of Imaging Services, operates diagnostic equipment and performs complete diagnostic imaging tests / ultrasound studies inclusive of positioning patient, calibration of equipment, and documentation of findings. Responsible for the efficient daily operation of the Ultrasound Suite(s) which involves quality control/quality assurance. Coordinates patient flow and the activities of the Ultrasound Department; Prepares Ultrasound Suite(s) to be utilized. Produces and digitally archives images, provides patient orientation, procedure explanation, inclusive of positioning patient, calibration of equipment, pre and post diagnostic care to completion of test and documentation of findings. Maintains patient safety through attention to detail, equipment safety checks, adherence to department policies, and effective communication with physicians, staff and patients. Assists patients with basic patient care needs. Displays positive support for and promotes the Values, Mission and Vision of CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial.

Correlates the clinical history with the diagnostic study to be performed.Consults with the referring physician regarding the patient’s previous history and decision of appropriate ultrasonic procedures required.Introduces self, explains the procedure to be performed, obtains the pertinent paperwork and is completed accurately.Consistently performs quality ultrasound studies.Assists with training programs and in-services as needed.Delineates normal from abnormal tissue and is able to extend the scope of the study appropriately.Provides technical assistance for surgical biopsy and aspiration procedures.Performs quality checks on equipment and maintains a working knowledge of probe cleaning processes.Demonstrates willingness to follow the chain of command, regularly channels suggestions, criticisms and questions to the appropriate person. Supports department-based goals and contributes to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff. Maintains proficiency in ancillary areas of department, i.e., radiology, front desk, patient transport and provides support when needed.Consistently enters correct exam information in computer system.Regularly practices aseptic techniques and utilizes Universal Precautions.Rotates weekend/call responsibilities in a professional and accountable fashion if applicable. Provides the requesting physician with preliminary technical findings based on diagnostic criteria established for the procedure, if requested.Performs duties in accordance with that of hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines.Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education Level
Graduate of an accredited Sonography Program or Radiologic Technology Program from an accredited institution.
Licensure/Certification
BLS certification (through an approved AHA program) &
Registered with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists – ARRT in one of the following registries: (S), (VS), or (BS) or
Registered with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography - ARDMS or
Registered with Cardiovascular Credentialing International – CCI (RVS)
