Sonographer Vascular Registered - McLaren Careers
**Department:** Cardiology Non-Invasive **Shift:** Variable **Daily Work Times:** Variable **Scheduled Bi-Weekly Hours:** 0 Performs high quality vascular ultrasound procedures that require ingenuity, initiative and independent judgment on patients. Performs Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI's with and without exercise), carotid and abdominal aorta duplex scans, upper and lower extremity arterial & venous scans (Doppler and imaging) and groin scans. Follows department policies and protocols. Responsibilities: * Specializes in performing cardiac ultrasound diagnostic studies. * Obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence to patients and ensure the needs of individual patients are met. * Operates and maintains all assigned ultrasound scanning equipment to ensure it works properly. * Positions patients, selects appropriate transducers and machine settings and conducts scanning procedures to correctly capture the images requested by a physician. * Completes quality assurance processes and practices. Complies with all Joint Commission, federal, state, and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols. * Maintains all required documentation, logs, charts, forms and records in paper and electronic formats. * Maintains an adequate supply of all consumables to perform quality testing. * Performs all routine daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic maintenance and function checks following established protocol for all imaging equipment. * Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. * Performs other related duties as required and directed. Required: * High school diploma or GED. * Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography and/or a Registered Vascular Sonographer through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. * or- Satisfactory completion of a formal vascular sonographer training program (1-4 years) must be registry eligible and attain certification within one year. * or- Graduate from a diagnostic ultrasound training program (2-4 years) with 1 full additional year of full-time clinical experience in a dedicated echocardiography laboratory and registry eligible and attain certification within one year. * or- Two years of college with emphasis on the biological sciences with two years experience in a dedicated echocardiography laboratory and registry eligible and attain certification within one year. * Current BLS certification.
