Your New Role:
Working in support of TNT Sports properties, the Freelance Sound Designer is expected to
showcase developed creative, technical, and soft skills within their craft. This position is designed
for a well-rounded, experienced post-production sound professional with expertise in multiple post
sound roles, a sharp ear, and a passion for sound for picture.
The Freelance Sound Designer is entrusted to autonomously mix a variety of content including
mid- and high-profile projects that require creative collaboration with TNT Sports personnel. The
Sound Designer is responsible for the post-production sound of their network partners’ projects,
functioning primarily as a re-recording mixer and sound editor, while also collaborating with other
departments on all aspects of post sound.
The Freelance Sound Designer is expected to have an extensive understanding of the sonic
branding of properties across the company’s portfolio, which they implement and build upon with
a level of autonomy based in trust and experience with the TNT Sports brands. They forge
relationships with partners, producers, and other craftspeople across the organization. They
should also have flexible availability, including nights, weekends and holidays.
Your Role Accountabilities:
CREATIVE SKILLS
• Design, edit, and mix post-production sound for mid- and high- profile original
programming and promotional/marketing multi-platform content across TNT Sports'
diverse portfolio
• Fully understand and build upon the sonic branding of each partner group
• Execute assigned projects with limited guidance from staff and feedback from partners
• Develop the role that sound plays in telling the story of each project and network
• Display creative initiative, ownership, and autonomy with each project
• Work closely with other post-production artists including Editors and Designers to elevate
the work through creative collaboration and development of workflow efficiencies
• Fill in for the duties and responsibilities of Senior Sound Designers when the need arises
TECHNICAL SKILLS
• Demonstrate an expert understanding of Pro Tools digital audio workstation and file-based
post sound for picture workflows
• Demonstrate an expert knowledge of relevant media and file formats – both source and
deliverables, as well as media management skills; understand when to leverage the Digital
Media Specialist team for their expertise
• Demonstrate expertise in delivering broadcast-compliant mixes and understanding of a
variety of deliverable specs
• Familiarity with recording setups for voiceover and other dialogue recording productions
• Ability to troubleshoot tech issues in a timely manner, including understanding when to
leverage engineering and management resources for support
• Work with sound design team, management, engineering, and supervising artists to test
and provide input on the development of new workflows
SOFT SKILLS
• Provide creative solutions when problems arise
• Showcase an ability to work autonomously with initial direction from the partners
• Anticipate the partners’ needs based on previous knowledge of the brands, projects, and
requests
• Motivation and readiness to take on new challenges and bring creative ideas to the table
• Collaborate effectively, both in person and remotely, and be open to new ideas and
workflows
• Ability to quickly adapt and pivot based on project deadlines and partners’ requests
• Willingness to reach out to others to learn and incorporate feedback from producers, peers,
and managers to enable continued growth
• Assist in the development of the sound design interns, apprentices, and associates by
providing feedback, guidance, and mentorship
• Ability to contribute valuable information towards project workflow guidelines,
create/update workflow documents when needed based on expertise, and ensure protocols
are being implemented
• Maintain expert communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as high attention to
detail and meticulous organizational skills
• Demonstrate the importance of interpersonal skills by assisting partners in their
understanding of Sound Design workflows and by showcasing an understanding of session
etiquette
• Demonstrate initiative by recognizing opportunities to contribute to the team and to elevate
their own craft
• Track session time and details in a timely manner to support the operations team
Qualifications & Experiences:
• 3-5 years of work experience editing and mixing post-production sound for picture
• Experience editing and mixing promotional-style short form content
• Must have working knowledge of sound editing and mixing applications including Pro
Tools, Izotope RX, Soundminer, and third-party plugins
• Must have working knowledge of file-based workflows for audio and post sound
deliverables
• Ability and flexibility to work varying shifts as needed including nights and weekends
