We are looking for an SPD Aide to support our Sterile Processing Department

 

Employment Status: Permanent Part-Time
Hours of Work: Must be available for all rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights) on weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays.
Location: Wilson
Labour Group: NOWU Service 
Reporting Relationship: Manager MDRD and Utility Aides 
Hourly Rate: $28.356 - $28.877

 

Responsibilities:

In accordance with the principles of infection control, decontamination , sterilization, and aseptic techniques, and established policies, procedures, and safety standards:Inspection, testing, setting up and maintaining all hardware and or trays needed by the Clinics and or departments in the hospitalPerforms routine preventive maintenance on medical devices, equipment, and supplies. Identifies damaged or malfunctioning medical devices, equipment, and supplies. Reports, records, initiates, and follows up on repairs to faulty medical devices, equipment, and supplies as requiredReceives, sorts, dissembles, cleans, decontamination, assembly and sterilize medical devices o Decontamination and sterilization of hardware and case cart pickingLoads and operates sterilizing equipment. Monitors sterilizing equipment operation and performs standard quality assurance tests on effectiveness of the sterilization process in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and stores, rotates medical devicesAssembly and scanning based on computerized instrument tracking system and prints labels to adhere to tray, peel pouch and containersReceives, fills, and delivers urgent and routine requests for medical devices, supplies, and equipment for the OR and/or other patient areasMonitors and maintains established levels of sterile and non sterile supplies used throughout the Hospital and department in accordance with pre-determined quantities and needs by performing duties such as performing inventory counts, requisitioning of supplies and equipment, reporting and recording shortages, problems and complaints related to medical devices, supplies and equipmentAdheres to departmental and Hospital policy and proceduresPerforms routine cleaning/sanitation of work stations/areas, storage areas, processing machines, and equipmentPerforms related clerical duties such as maintaining records, answering telephones, filing, data entry, and information retrieval from computerAssists with orientation and training of new staff and studentsPrints pick lists using a computerized system. Picks and distributes medical devices sets, equipment, and supplies for medical and/or surgical procedures for various patient care procedures/areasReplenishes procedure and specialty supply carts for various patient care Areas on a regularly scheduled basis in accordance with established policies and proceduresPerforms and records environmental safety monitoring activitiesTransporting medical/surgical equipment, case carts etc.Distribution and collection of supplies, instruments, trays, etc. from the entire hospital and reprocessing in the appropriate way may be requiredPerforms other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent requiredCompletion of Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate from a Canadian Accredited Community College.Current registration by the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario (MDRAO)Two years recent experience including but not limited to: reprocessing, decontamination, sterilization, inspection, testing, setting up, maintaining, transporting distribution and collection of trays, case carts, medical instruments, equipment, and hardware requiredGood working knowledge of medical supplies, instruments, hardware, and sterilization equipment requiredKnowledge of surgical and medical terminologyGood command of the English Language (both verbal and written) requiredDemonstrated ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervisionAbility to operate, with training, machinery, i.e. sterilizersAbility to meet the physical demands of the position in order to perform the essential duties of the job which requires lifting/pushing (up to 25 lbs) and standing (up to 7.5 hours) for extended periods of timeMust be able to work with organic and inorganic residues such as blood and other bodily fluids and secretions seen on medical devicesDemonstrated interpersonal skills, and the ability to work alone or as a part a teamExcellent attendance and discipline free record required
