Under the direction of the Superintendent or Foreman, a Special Mechanic - Welder is responsible for repairing NJ TRANSIT buses for maintenance work and handle welding tasks.
Main Functions:
Conducts a variety of testing, repair, installation and maintenance tasks on equipment including engines, brake systems, suspension, steering, electronics, electrical systems, HVAC, transmission, and painting equipment, as well as:
1. Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions and follow established policies and procedures.
2. Be able to diagnose and repair all electric I/O Controls and Multiplex Wiring Systems.
3. Have the ability to complete wiring conversion for buses with 12v, 24v, 110v and High voltage (EV buses).
4. Must have the mechanical ability. Be able to disassemble and reassemble complete electrical components.
5. Must have a working knowledge of reading electrical schematics. Be able to diagnose and repair electrical faults including wiring repair.
6. Be able to diagnose and repair electrical components on all computer-controlled engines and transmissions.
7. Must have the ability to trouble-shoot, analyze and implement effective solutions for operational faults on hybrid vehicle systems and components.
8. Be able to trouble-shoot and repair all electrical components.
9. Working knowledge of air conditioning and electrical systems.
10. Must be able to diagnose and program with a computer all engines, transmissions, and various other systems (i.e., HVAC etc.).
11. Demonstrate ability in the proper use of tools and diagnostic equipment.
12. Must be able to use and read parts manual and be able to fill out required forms.
13. Must be willing to work overtime when required.
14. Must keep area clean, uncluttered, and safe. Must follow established shop safety policies and procedures.
Education and Experience Requirements:
+ Must have a high school diploma or GED, ASE certification a plus
+ Must have a CDL license
+ Must have five years' experience in the welding field.
+ Be able to pass the pre-employment physical and background checks
+ Must be certified and able to supply copies of prior certifications and able to read blueprints, sketches, and drawings
+ Must be willing to work overtime when required
