JOB SUMMARY :
The compliance specialist maintains in-depth knowledge of current environmental regulations and safety and health laws as they apply to Plant McDonough Combined Cycle units and applies that knowledge to ensure compliance with permits and regulations. The compliance specialist interfaces with corporate environmental affairs and regulatory agencies and ensures notification in cases of non-compliance. This individual recognizes safety, health and environmental compliance issues that require attention and proactively addresses them. The successful candidate will model Our Values and lead by example in safety and compliance.
The successful candidate will be responsible for environmental (air, water, land, and waste) and CCR programs as assigned, Safe Dams and BMP programs as assigned, industrial hygiene programs as assigned, Process Safety Management, self-assessments, program audits, conducting compliance training, and acting as back-up to other compliance programs. This position requires on-call duty rotation for nights and weekends and is subject to call out on weekends, nights, and holidays.
This position is part of a job family and will be filled at either an exempt level 4 or 5 depending on experience. Some relocation assistance may be available.

This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:
Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license). Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application. Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
(Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field, is required or equivalent experience. In-depth knowledge of and ability to understand and interpret current environmental laws and regulations as they apply to the plant is required. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a group setting is required. Knowledge of Environmental Programs ( Air, Water, Land, etc..) preferred Knowledge of Process Safety Management preferred. Knowledge of power plant operations is preferred. Excellent oral and written communications skills are required. Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills are required. Previous experience creating and delivering presentations is desired. Previous project management experience including interfacing with employees, contractors and regulatory agencies, reconciling invoices, budgeting, etc. is a plus. Familiarity with CCR regulations is desired. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products is required. Experience with other company specific software such as Maximo, Oracle, Primavera, Avetta, Enablon and BRIDGE is desired. Current certifications such as Level 1A erosion/sedimentation inspector, Method 9 visual emissions, Safe Dams inspection training is a plus. Demonstrate Safety as a Core Value in daily actions. Ensures compliance with all programs: Water, Dredging, Non-Hazardous and Hazardous Waste, CCR, Dam Safety, Used Oil, SPCC/FRP, Process Safety Management, Risk Management Program, Industrial Hygiene programs, AIR (Title V), NERC ERO/CIP, TRI, Tier II reporting, etc. Ensures compliance with permits by data gathering and record keeping for necessary reports, necessary sampling, monitoring equipment, and interfacing with plant personnel. Investigates non-compliance incidents, ensures timely notification to the appropriate regulatory agencies. Prepares and submits all routine regulatory reporting for respective programs for Plant McDonough-Atkinson site. Writes, reviews and updates plant environmental compliance procedures. Deliver presentations to internal and external groups to inform them of various environmental and compliance issues including compliance training. Develop and maintain compliance procedures. Conduct CCR and safe dams inspections as required Conduct storm water monitoring and inspection of erosion/sedimentation BMPs as required. Coordinator for Plant McDonough environmental stewardship initiatives and community outreach programs. Performs self-assessments on plant environmental programs, implements strategies and procedures to maintain compliance. Assists in the provision of compliance training for all plant employees.
