Specialist, IT Gov Risk & Controls

Summary:

The Specialist, IT Gov Risk & Controls is responsible for evaluating information technology control design and effectiveness to support Freedom Mortgage Corporation’s information technology objectives. Responsibilities also include coordinating control design, documentation, and implementation in conjunction with process owners. Planning, coordinating, executing, and monitoring IT controls testing is a key function of this position.

Essential Job Functions:

Execute control evaluation and validation for internal technology controls.

Participate in design and operating effectiveness testing of in scope processes/systems.

Proactively identify existing and emerging IT risks.

Aids in the performance of IT risk and control self-assessments.

Able to articulate both inherent and residual risk and communicate control requirements.

May provide counsel on common methods to address gaps and execute controls.

Communicate project status, concerns, or issues to Management in a timely manner.

Develop business and technology team knowledge to better understand processes, metrics, and required controls.

Perform monitoring and testing of IT controls at the application, database, operating system, and process levels.

Develops and maintains strong working relationships with process owners through continuous and proactive communications.

Review control descriptions, process narratives and testing strategies for reasonableness and accuracy. Make recommendations and implement updates to documentation.

Perform proper planning to execute the required test steps by established deadlines with minimal supervision.

Identify internal control weaknesses and recommend remediation to strengthen control environment.

Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Comply with all company policies and procedures.

This position is an individual contributor with no direct reports but may provide guidance, leadership or training to others.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English or Communications. Five (5) additional years of technical writing experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Minimum five (5) years of experience writing policies, procedures and standards.

Expert written and verbal communication skills.

Problem solving and critical thinking with strong focus on detail.

Ability to Identify root cause and proper solution.

Strong research and analytical skills.

Strong proficiency in MS Office skills, including the use of templates.

Ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced environment.

Experience in IT, Information Security, Compliance or Data Privacy.

SOX/SOC 1 & 2 experience highly desirable.

Familiarity with various IT controls frameworks, such as COBIT, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, NIST 800-53, preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Risk certification (CISSP, CISA or CRISC), preferred.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, and interpret documents such as policy and procedure manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
