As a Process Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in the creation of optics destined for cutting-edge space optical systems, terrestrial observatories, and advanced high-energy laser projects. Essential Functions:
Master and apply a variety of optical fabrication techniques, including surface generation, traditional grinding and polishing, abrasive water jet cutting, as well as advanced methods like computer-controlled polishing, ion figuring, and MRF.Develop and execute comprehensive manufacturing instructions.Troubleshoot and resolve complex manufacturing issues.Conduct thorough evaluations and analyses to enhance optical fabrication processes.Define requirements for tooling and fixtures essential for manufacturing operations.Accurately forecast the time and resources needed to complete manufacturing tasks.Lead initiatives to improve current processes or introduce new processing techniques.Collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team to meet project objectives.Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.Previous experience implementing and developing optical fabrication processes. Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.Preferred Additional Skills:
Strong mechanical aptitude and general understanding of manufacturing and assembly techniques.Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA).Basic understanding and application of geometric dimension and tolerancing (GD&T).Demonstrate appropriate computer knowledge in basic Microsoft Office software applications.Familiarity with CAD/CAM systems, and MATLAB.In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York State is $71,500 - $132,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
