Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking qualified individuals to join our Aeronautical Systems Engineering team as a Mass Properties Engineer. Mass Properties Engineers perform mass properties analyses, weight control, and reporting for major aircraft modifications using computer aided design (CAD) tools, Microsoft Excel and AWBS. You will also support the development of engineering estimates for bids and provide input to a regular labor forecast for your team. Mass Properties Engineers work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft modifications on various aircraft platforms.
Essential Functions:
Calculate and estimate component weights, moment arms, and mass moment of inertia from engineering drawings and CAD modelsCalculate overall aircraft weight and balance as a result of a collection of modificationsDevelop aircraft mass distributions in support of loads developmentManage weight control plans, including allocation and tracking of target weightsPrepare aircraft weight charts and support aircraft inventories for weighingsDocument weight analysis and actual aircraft weighings in engineering reportsLead and coordinate tasks for Mass Properties on several contractsProvide training and mentoring to less experienced engineersEstimate the scope and labor hours for Mass Properties efforts on new pursuitsUpdate monthly labor forecastsJob Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Mathematics, or Physics
Minimum of 4 years of fixed-wing aircraft weight and balance analysis
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPointMust be able to travel to and from flight line and work in aircraft hangar environments (some positions will require the ability to board/exit aircraft)Willingness to travelMust be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.Preferred Additional Skills:
Understanding of FAA and military weight and balance reporting requirements and methodsAdvanced skill in managing large data sets in Microsoft ExcelExperience with Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS)Experience with aircraft weighingPlease be aware many of our positions require the ability to obtain a security clearance.
