Position Summary
The Infection Prevention Coordinator works in collaboration with Infectious Disease Physicians, the Infection Prevention Taskforce, Employee Health Services, and Facilities and Environmental Services to develop and maintain a comprehensive Infection Surveillance, Prevention and Control program. This program includes surveillance and reporting of healthcare associated infections (HAIs), provision of education and promotion of evidence-based practice to eliminate HAIs, and development of policies and procedures that are consistent with regulatory agencies’ standards and best practices. The Infection Prevention Coordinator serves as a consultant to all areas of the hospital regarding infection prevention and control. This individual reports on required occurrences per regulations to the appropriate regulatory agencies. The Infection Prevention Coordinator must be able to administer medications and treatments as prescribed by an authorized licensed provider when needed.

Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience or healthcare related experience in hospital setting
License/Registration/Certifications
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in South Carolina

Core Job Responsibilities
Reports required occurrences per regulations to the appropriate regulatory agencies Participates in planning and monitoring of construction and renovation projects related to schedule, timing and problems Implements performance initiatives based on surveillance data Participates in infection prevention policy and procedure review Participates in product evaluations related to infection prevention in patient care Plays an active role in associate education related to infection prevention issues Conducts thorough investigations when surveillance data indicates and/or when requested Assists physicians and clinical staff in the development of cost-effective, high quality continuum of care processes, including clinical protocols, outcome measurements, utilization review systems and care management on a system-wide basis Membership and participation in district, state, and national hospital association programs is expected Issues IP permits for construction and renovation projects and monitors compliance Administers and delivers medications and treatments as prescribed by an authorized licensed provider as needed
