About the Role




We are seeking a highly motivated person to be a Principal/Specialist Environmental Geochemist in the Closure Planning team for reporting to the Superintendent Environmental Geochemistry, Closure Planning. The role will be performed out of our Brisbane office but will require occasional travel to site (Bowen Basin). In this role, you will support the Environmental Geochemistry Supervisor undertake studies/investigations to advance understanding of operational and closure environmental geochemistry risk and management solutions. You will also provide support to studies and projects and providing planning guidance that contributes to development, update and implementation of internal and external closure plans for our operations. The role will be focused on Bowen Basin Metallurgical Coal assets.


Working closely with the Closure Planning and other planning and operational groups, your technical expertise will contribute to progressing geochemical knowledge to support operational mine waste management and inform successful closure and rehabilitation efforts.

Key responsibilities can include work in any of the following areas:
 

Provide technical geochemist expertise (SME) and guidance to support Closure and Rehabilitation Planning, Operational, Closure, and Approval Projects Conduct/support Acid and Metalliferous Drainage (AMD) / Environmental Geochemistry Risk Assessments, including source-pathways-receptor risk assessment and site conceptualisation Support developing and improving closure planning, progressive rehabilitation planning, procedures, systems and tools related to AMD / Environmental Geochemistry management Provide support to environmental geochemical programs, including designing sampling programs, data interpretation, data management, landform geochemical monitoring, reporting Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, provide technical input on management of geochemical hazard and closure related issues Design and assist implement field AMD trials in collaboration with site operators, universities, and external stakeholders to support Closure and Rehabilitation strategies Manage projects and consultants 


  About You




You will have an interest and a working knowledge of mining, preferably with a background in Geochemistry or relevant discipline with a minimum of 7-10 year’s technical experience in environmental geochemistry. A working understanding of geochemical modelling, hydrogeology, and water quality predictions would be beneficial.


In addition, to be successful in this role, you will have:
 

Ability to identify and understand relevant health, safety, environment, and community risks in the work you perform and the plans you prepare Demonstrated and extensive experience in environmental geochemistry and related fields (tertiary qualifications will be a plus) Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrable ability to work in a diverse team environment Capable of establishing and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and influence desired outcomes Excellent time management skills and capacity to work on diverse projects simultaneously Scientifically minded, practical, dynamic, responsible, pro-active, curious, and capable to work independently and as part of a team Capable of establishing clear goals and responsibilities. Hold yourself and others accountable to deliver on commitments. Challenge others Strong and demonstrable project management, oral and written communication skills Availability to support and mentor your team, passionate about geochemistry, and capable of giving and receiving feedback in a respectful manner, and generous with your knowledge
