JOB DESCRIPTION: Specialist I, Communications and Community Relations, Landover, MD
The Communications and Community Relations Specialist will develop communications to promote Giant's community giving and assist with the execution of comprehensive community-based programs for the brand. The Specialist will develop positive social media, broadcast, and print media engagement to support Giant's giving pillars. The position will help execute sponsorships and fundraisers to maintain Giant Food's reputation as a good neighbor in the cities and towns we serve. This role reports to the External Communications Manager II.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop content strategy for LinkedIn and write copy to communicate the brand's commitment to caring for its communities. Support social community management agency to interact with followers, responding to comments and resolving customer issues. Develop media pitches and coordinate media availability to promote community/charitable work. Work closely with Internal Communications to write and share content on the brand's community giving across multiple communications channels for associates. Project manage content development and execution of Giant's Better Neighbor Report, working cross-functionally with channel leads to update annual corporate social responsibility report. Represent Giant at community events, serving as a media liaison and assisting with day-of execution. Plan and execute Grand Opening and Grand Re-opening of store locations Amplify all aspects of Giant Food community giving, including charitable giving at a corporate and store level, sponsorships, front-end campaigns, and the Giant Food Family Foundation. Assist with the planning and execution of food distribution and community programs that deliver on overarching brand and regional objectives and help build our reputation as a good neighbor. Provide support for brand sponsorships, including sports partnerships, and assists in identifying and vetting new potential partners. Review and vet incoming requests for donations to identify opportunities that align with the brand's key pillars of giving and present recommendations for leaders to review.
REQUIREMENTS
2+ years experience in communications, non-profit organization or in a community relations role Experience with social media management or writing for social media. Excellent written and interpersonal skills Effective time management and organizational skills Ability to effectively manage multiple, changing priorities. Strong passion for community and charitable work Bachelor's degree in communications or related
