**Position Summary**
We are looking for a **R&D Specialist in Carbohydrates** , to be responsible for leading projects or activities requiring the analysis and/or characterization of carbohydrates using techniques such as liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. This role will also be responsible for experimental design and execution, and ensuring quantitative methods are suitably validated. Working as part of a small team you will also be expected to provide coaching and guidance to your colleagues.

**A Day in the Life of a R&D Specialist in Carbohydrates**
+ Develop and validate fit for purpose analytical methods for the quantification of carbohydrate components in food matrices and biological samples
+ Build and document knowledge about latest methods, trends and developments in carbohydrate analyses (and carbohydrate science in general)
+ Integrate interdisciplinary knowledge into business context, e.g. carbohydrate (bio)chemistry knowledge to explain prebiotic concepts
+ Explore, identify and translate patentable breakthrough data into business relevant patent applications
+ Recommend, plan and deliver technical and scientific support for projects related to the characterization or quantification of carbohydrates in collaboration with internal stakeholders
**What will make you successful**
+ PhD in analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry or food chemistry
+ Passionate about analytical chemistry
+ Expertise in polysaccharide/oligosaccharide analysis and characterization would be an asset
+ A working knowledge of two or more of the following techniques, HPLC, NMR, CE, mass spectrometry
+ Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written)
