Minimum of two years of experience working in a healthcare setting or in a role closely related to clinical simulation or medical education. At least one year of experience working within a Standardized Patient program preferred. A combination of education, experience, and specialized training that would provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in lieu of specific qualifications. Nature & Purpose of Position Performs highly advanced specialist duties for the Standardized Patient Program. Plays a critical role in supporting the administration and facilitation of the Standardized Patient Program. Primary Responsibilities Performs highly advanced specialist duties for the Standardized Patient Program. Assists with the recruitment, schedules, and trains standardized patients to ensure they are prepared for clinical scenarios. Assists in day-to-day tasks related to standardized patient activities, including coordination of schedules, communication with standardized patients, and maintaining records of participation. Collaborates with the Standardized Patient Coordinator to ensure standardized patients are following proper procedures and performing their roles accurately. Participates in high-fidelity simulations, including the setup, operation, and breakdown of simulation equipment such as task trainers, simulators, and other simulation devices. Assists faculty and staff in developing and executing realistic simulation scenarios for clinical education purposes. Ensures simulation environments are properly maintained, stocked, and set up according to scenario requirements. Serves as a liaison between the Standardized Patient Program, faculty, and students to ensure effective communication regarding simulation schedules and activities. Provides support during simulation sessions by assisting in logistics, and troubleshooting any technical or procedural issues. Collaborates with other team members in the Clinical Skills Training Department to align simulation activities with educational goals. Maintains accurate records of standardized patient participation, including hours worked, scenario performance, and feedback from faculty or students. Assists with the collection and analysis of data related to simulation activities and standardized patient performance for program improvement. Prepares reports and summaries as requested by the Standardized Patient Coordinator or Clinical Skills leadership. Monitors the performance of standardized patients and the effectiveness of simulation scenarios to ensure consistency and quality. Identifies areas for improvement and provides feedback to ensure high standards are maintained in all simulation activities. Stays updated on best practices in standardized patient and simulation-based education to continuously improve the quality and realism of simulation scenarios. Participates in professional development opportunities, such as workshops, seminars, or certification programs, to enhance skills related to simulation and medical education. Assists in the preparation and application of moulage to enhance the realism of clinical simulations, including the creation of realistic injuries, medical conditions, and other visual effects. Collaborates with faculty and simulation staff to ensure moulage is applied accurately and aligns with the learning objectives of each scenario. Performs other related duties as assigned. Other Specifications Requires work in both clinical (simulated) and educational environments, including simulation labs, classrooms, and simulated clinical settings. May involve standing for extended periods, operating simulation equipment, and handling materials necessary for moulage or high-fidelity simulations. May require moderate physical activity, including lifting and moving simulation equipment, mannequins, and task trainers, as well as setting up and dismantling simulation environments. Must be proficient in using and troubleshooting simulation technology, including high-fidelity simulators, task trainers, and audiovisual recording equipment. Experience with moulage techniques and related technology is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required, along with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and software related to simulation and clinical education. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as the role involves frequent collaboration with faculty, staff, standardized patients, and medical students. The ability to provide clear feedback and instruction during simulations is key. Requires excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously. Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate simulation sessions that may occur outside of standard business hours. Involves handling sensitive information related to student performance, clinical cases, and standardized patient interactions. Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to institutional policies regarding privacy is essential.
