ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a 24-month fixed-term contract, with a Monday to Friday, 38-hour work week, DIDO from our Worsley Alumina Refinery, which is a short drive from Collie (15 minutes), Bunbury (35 minutes) and other nearby scenic communities.
The Specialist Laboratory (Chemist) will support the continuous monitoring and control of the Refinery and Mine, providing technical service and instrumentation support. You will apply your skills to resolve quality and process issues, collaborating with the Laboratory Superintendent and Worsley teams. A solid understanding of instrumentation and analytical procedures is key, with an opportunity to deepen your expertise in specific instruments.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure personal and lab safety by adhering to work standards, understanding risks, and maintaining competency for assigned tasks. Perform risk assessments, report hazards, and assist with quality observations and investigations. Maintain, calibrate and ensure reliability of laboratory equipment and instruments, as well as the development and improvement of analytical methods. Management of Laboratory Information Systems, coordination of alumina shipping analysis and Certification of Analysis, Quality Assurance and Analytical Reports Support cost reduction efforts, and screen new chemicals for process impact.
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
5-10 years’ experience, including laboratory instrumentation, troubleshooting, and commissioning (e.g., XRF, XRD, FTIR, ICAP). Proficient in Laboratory Information Management Systems, with a strong understanding of equipment and analytical procedures. Proven ability to deliver projects, write reports and procedures. Experience in commissioning and maintenance of laboratory instruments in a process lab. Strong teamwork, collaboration skills, and ability to prioritise tasks with minimal supervision.
Qualifications for this position are:
University Science graduate.
