About the Role

 

BHP is a leading mining company with a commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Specialist to join our team at our closed mine site East Kemptville located in Alder Plains, Nova Scotia. The Operations Specialist will be responsible for coordinating the collection and analysis of water samples, inspections of infrastructure, and collecting other data at our closed mine site. In addition, operating the lime treatment facility/site will be a shared duty on a rotational basis ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will have a strong background in environmental studies, have excellent communication and computer skills, and have the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

 

Main Responsibilities:

 

Conduct/coordinate the collection and analysis of regulatory and non-regulatory water samples. Data management of water data in company database EQuIS. Conduct/coordinate the measurement and data management of piezometers. Report writing. Operate lime treatment facility/site and conduct operational rounds on a rotational basis with other team members which includes an on-call rotation following a period of training. Coordinate contractor work, including supervising as required. Conduct site inspections. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and safety standards.

 

 

About You Experience in a mining or industrial setting, or equivalent setting. Post-secondary education in a related field. Have superior reading, writing and computer skills. Experience with computerized data management systems would be an asset. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively alone and in a team environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks. Strong safety culture with the ability to identify and manage safety risks. Must possess a valid driver's license (Class 5). Ability to operate heavy equipment would be considered an asset.


Working Conditions:

 

The Operations Specialist will work primarily Monday to Friday at the site.  If not currently located in the area, must be willing to relocate to within a reasonable commute to the site.  Support a once per month on-call rotation (7 days) with other team members.
