Position Summary
The Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering seeks mission-focused and motivated applicants for a Research Specialist position in food safety engineering. The successful applicant will lead and manage multiple projects aimed at advancing the application of engineering tools and approaches to improving the validation of food safety control systems, working in an existing, collaborative, food safety engineering team.
This individual will be responsible for leading and managing multiple research projects in the general area of food safety engineering, with a particular focus on process validations for regulatory compliance, predictive microbial modeling, and advanced statistical analyses of food safety data. The individual will be expected to lead grant proposals to acquire external funding for research in food safety engineering, lead/manage multiple existing projects (including lab-based and pilot-scale Biosafety Level-2 experimental research and analytical/model-based research), oversee existing and future data management plans for multi-institutional projects, lead the authoring/submission of peer-reviewed journal articles, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students. There is an opportunity and expectation for this individual to play a lead role in acquiring new external grant funding to support this position, and potentially new graduate/undergraduate student employees, beyond the initial term of the position.

Required Degree
Doctorate
Minimum Requirements
+ Ph.D. in Biosystems Engineering.
+ Prior training and qualifications for carrying out Biosafety-Level 2 experimental research in both laboratory and pilot-plant environments.
+ Demonstrated experience in authoring peer-reviewed journal articles.
+ Demonstrated experience in managing multi-institutional, grant-funded research/outreach/education projects, including data management, task management, and project reporting to funding sources.
Desired Qualifications
+ Experience giving research and training presentations at national professional society meetings.
+ Experience supervising and mentoring student employees.
+ Experience with research projects related to federal food safety regulations.
