The Specialist Technical Communicator works as a Technical Writer who designs, plans, coordinates, writes, and illustrates technical documentation & user guides for R&D product and system programs in the English language using Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) and various forms of multi-media.

Family Description

Applied R&D (AR) consists of target-oriented research either with the goal of solving a particular problem / answering a specific question or for multi-discipline design, development, and implementation of hardware, software, and systems including maintenance support. Supplies techno-economic consulting to clients. AR work is characterised by its detailed and complex nature in order to systematically combine existing knowledge and practices to further developing and incrementally improving products, operational processes, and customer-specific feature development.

Subfamily Description

Information Design (IFD) comprises the design, planning, coordination, writing, and illustrating of technical customer documentation and user guides in R&D product and system programmes. Contains planning, developing, writing, and editing of operational and maintenance information about products, systems, and solutions. These appear as web-based publications for internal and external users; sometimes including Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) and various forms of multi-media.

 

Knowledge & Experience

Established skills and knowledge of theory and principles within a professional discipline. Uses functionally specific knowledge. Typically 2-6 years of technical documentation experience and a graduate equivalent degree in IT, computer science or other engineering.

Required Skills:

Strong writing and editing skills in English.Knowledge of User Experience and best practices for technical content.Familiarity with style guidelines and document type definitions.Experience with CMS, XML, version control (Git), and basic scripting.Basic media editing skills. Tools Such as, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Inkscape, Visio ProKnowledge of documentation standards (ISO/IEC/IEEE 26511, IEC/IEEE 26514, etc.).Experience in international teams and agile environments.Proficiency with task management tools (Jira).
