VCA West Coast Specialty and Emergency Animal Hospital (https://vcahospitals.com/west-coast/team) , a 24/7 Emergency and Specialty Referral Hospital located in **Fountain Valley, California** is seeking a highly experienced Specialty Veterinarian to lead our well-established team as **Medical Director** .
This is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated Veterinary Specialist to transition their career into a primarily administrative leadership position, establishing the direction and medical quality of the hospital while also continuing to practice veterinary medicine. You will receive support from the Regional Medical Director and Regional Operations Director. In addition, we have a full-time onsite Social Worker and Human Resources partner.

Our doctors and staff are committed to exceptional patient care and client experience. Specialties include emergency, internal medicine, radiology, neurology, cardiology, ophthalmology, surgery, medical oncology, surgical oncology and radiation oncology. We have 15 exam rooms and 6 surgical suites. With a large and growing referral base, few veterinary referral centers have what VCA West Coast has to offer.
Today, we are a team of over 20 doctors and over 140 associates who pride ourselves on our collaborative and collegial approach to patient care. Daily morning rounds allow the teams to meet and discuss hospitalized cases and transfers between departments.
VCA West Coast has the most comprehensive pet cancer team in Orange County. Working together to provide a continuum of care under one roof, our surgical, medical, and radiation oncology specialists, in conjunction with diagnostic imaging specialists, collaborate to provide the most effective cancer treatment plan for each pet.
Our hospital is located adjacent to Huntington Beach and the gorgeous Pacific Coast Highway, ten minutes from the beach. This is the classic example of Southern California living with blue skies, palm trees and postcard perfect days and nights. We boast some of the best schools in the state, some of the safest places to raise a family and an outstanding quality of life. Orange County is located an easy distance from many outdoor activities; you can surf in the morning and ski in the afternoon!
**Job Summary:**
The Medical Director (MD) under direction of the field management team is responsible for establishing the medical quality and patient care practiced by all doctors. The MD achieves this through strong leadership serving as a mentor and role model for the associate veterinarians and staff. A MD should demonstrate a strong work ethic, integrity, and a consistent positive attitude. The MD is also an integral part of the hospital management team responsible for the overall financial performance of the hospital, and helps create and drive the overall direction for the hospital. The MD also fulfills all of the duties of a staff veterinarian in addition to the specific responsibilities of Medical Director.
**Medical Responsibilities:**
Ensures highest quality patient care (pain control, safe anesthetic practices, wellness care, care for hospitalized patients etc.) and medical decision making by the associate DVM team.
Oversees the medical protocols for the hospital by collaborating with the Regional Medical Director (RMD) – including handling of patients with infectious disease, isolation protocols, anesthesia prep/monitoring standards etc.

Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The annual salary range for this position is $300,000 to $375,000. This position may also be eligible for an MD stipend and MD bonus in addition to other variable pay programs.
