Specialty Resource Nurse, ED
Position Summary Full-Time Day Shift $39.15 - $62.64

The specialty resource nurse aims to improve patient care quality by enhancing clinical skills, knowledge, and competency through ongoing training and mentorship, often collaborating with nursing leadership to identify and address specific practice gaps within the ER setting. Acts as primary clinical resource in specialty to identify needs and implement strategies to meet customer requirements.  The resource person focuses on designing, delivering and evaluating educational needs for all staff within the emergency department. They encourage staff to share in patient care responsibilities, seek opportunities for improvement and to accomplish mutually set goals according to the philosophy, policies and procedures of the hospital and the Emergency Services Department.

Provides age-appropriate care. Participates in research when appropriate and incorporates research findings into evidence-based clinical practice. Contributes to quality improvement processes.  Adheres to MMC Mission, Vision, and Values, the Nursing Division Mission, Vision, and Philosophy, the ANA Code of Ethics and the Illinois Nursing Act.

Clinical Skills

Maintains basic knowledge and skills in all emergency nursing. Maintains expertise in designated specialty or area of responsibility. Serves as primary clinical resource to ensure optimal management of patients within emergency nursing. Serves as consultant to team members regarding complex patients or situations.

Clinical Leadership and Education

Leading and mentoring other nurses in the ER on evidence-based practices and complex patient management.  Developing and implementing educational programs for ER staff on new clinical guidelines, procedures, and technologies.  Identifying areas for improvement within the ER and designing quality improvement projects. Unit coordination/productivity Develops positive working relationships with physicians, advance practice providers and with pre-hospital providers. Assists in coordination of the flow of the department Assists in orientation and education of staff. Promotes and collaborates with staff to build a climate that demonstrates appreciation and recognition of achievement. Fosters positive, interdepartmental collaborative relationships to improve patient care, unit efficiency, and effectiveness. Implements cost-effective measures to enhance effective and efficient patient care. Participates in quality improvement processes.

Communication skills

Utilizes simple, direct, and clear verbal instructions and obtains feedback to ensure that instructions are understood. Demonstrates a supportive, receptive, non-threatening communication style allowing for immediate expression of ideas and problem solving. Keeps staff informed of changes in schedule and assignments. Actively participates in committees and work groups. Keeps appropriate management personnel informed of issues relating to staffing, scheduling, equipment, and other needs.

Personal and professional growth.

Demonstrates responsibility for own personal and professional growth as reflected by professional development activities and unit projects. Attends and participates in in-service programs. Acts as role model to staff. Required Experience

Education:

·         BSN preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:

·         RN License in State of Illinois required.

·         Current BLS/CPR certification required.

·         ACLS, PALS, TNCC or TNS, ECRN required.

·         Certification as an Emergency Nurse preferred.
Experience:

·         Minimum of five years of current clinical experience in emergency nursing.

·         Simulation training experience required.
