Position Summary:
Under immediate supervision, position prepares laboratory specimens for analysis or referral.
Responsibilities:
Performs order entry in LIS
Transports specimens and performs all pre-analytical processes related to lab testing
Verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis
Demonstrates customer service skills in answering phone calls and questions from internal and external healthcare staff
Works in Processing, Histology, and/or any analytical laboratory testing area (e.g. Microbiology, Chemistry, etc.)
Assists as needed with Phlebotomy duties if trained/competent
Performs all assigned duties related to the designated area of the lab
Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
Performs other related duties as assigned
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Previous medical or laboratory experience preferred
Working Conditions:
Must be able to lift and move up to 25 lbs
Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
Typical equipment used in a clinical job
Must be able to stoop crouch or bend
Exposure to needles, blood and body fluids, etc.
