Compensation is based on a fee-for-service model.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Speech Pathologist provides speech and language therapeutic services to children birth to five who have been diagnosed with a medical, developmental, physical and/or mental health disability. This position will provide assessment, education and intervention for children birth to five in the office and/or community/home-based settings. This position will work closely with mental health staff in order to provide multi-disciplinary services to children and families.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
+ Masters Degree in Speech and Language Pathology is required.
+ Current State of Michigan Speech and Language Pathology license is required.
+ Certificate of Clinical Competence through American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) is required.
+ At least one year of direct work experience in providing services to children and their families is required; three to five years preferred.
+ Experience in both clinic and community/home-based settings is preferred.
+ Knowledge of typical and atypical early child development required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Provide comprehensive assessments, treatment planning and developmentally supportive interventions which include, but are not limited to: providing services which are family centered and culturally and linguistically responsive; developing, improving, sustaining and restoring communication skills in activities of daily living (ADL’s) within the context of a child and family’s natural environment.
+ Educating clients, families and caregivers of interventions; provide modeling opportunities of interventions to be used throughout a client and family’s daily routines
+ Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing interventions according to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
+ Evaluates results of speech-language skills by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress; recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
+ Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers as appropriate; contributing to patient care conferences.
+ Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing and instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home. programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
+ Maintain client files according to Starfish Family Services guidelines.
+ May d evelop and conduct in-service training programs for agency staff.
LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
+ Valid driver’s license and / or reliable transportation.
+ Must be COVID-19 vaccinated, or partially, with the ability to complete within 30-days of employment. Circumstances preventing vaccination, and corresponding accommodations will be reviewed and considered.
