**Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)** A Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) working in a rehabilitation setting is responsible for diagnosing and treating speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders. Below is a detailed job description tailored to a rehabilitation environment **Job Overview** The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will provide specialized care to patients recovering from illnesses, injuries, surgeries, or chronic conditions. The SLP collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement personalized therapy plans aimed at restoring and improving communication and swallowing functions. **Key Responsibilities** **Assessment and Diagnosis:** + Conduct comprehensive evaluations assessing speech and language skills, voice, cognition and swallowing in acute hospital and inpatient rehabilitation settings + Utilize standardized tests, patient interviews, and clinical observations. + Diagnose disorders such as aphasia, dysphagia, apraxia, dysarthria, and cognitive impairments. + Review medical records and evaluate individuals and develop therapy treatment plans + Identify and develop intervention strategies + Direct and conduct speech therapy treatment programs that assist in the rehabilitation of individuals with functional disabilities of speech, language, voice, and swallowing + Instruct individuals, family members, and caregivers to ensure the maintenance of or to achieve the ideal functional level for each person served + Perform other duties as assigned **Treatment Planning and Implementation:** + Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and rehabilitation goals. + Provide therapy for speech, language, and swallowing issues using evidence-based techniques. + Use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices or strategies when necessary. **Patient Care and Education:** + Educate patients and caregivers on techniques to improve communication and swallowing. + Provide strategies to manage communication disorders in daily life. + Counsel patients and families about realistic goals and progress. **Collaboration and Documentation:** + Work with physicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and dietitians as part of a multidisciplinary team. + Maintain detailed documentation of assessments, progress notes, and discharge plans in compliance with healthcare regulations. + Participate in team meetings to discuss patient progress and modify treatment plans. **Specialized Skills:** + Perform modified barium swallow studies (MBSS) or other instrumental swallowing evaluations as needed. + Manage complex cases, such as those involving neurological impairments or post-surgical recovery. **Compliance and Professional Development:** + Adhere to federal, state, and institutional regulations and ethical guidelines. + Participate in ongoing education and training to stay updated on best practices and advancements in speech-language pathology. **Qualifications** **Education:** Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited program. **Licensure:** State licensure or certification as an SLP. **Certification:** Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred. **Experience:** Previous experience in a rehabilitation setting or with adult populations is highly desirable. **Skills:** Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills; proficiency with therapy tools and technology. **Working Conditions** + Work is primarily conducted in inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation facilities. + May require standing for extended periods and assisting patients with physical or cognitive limitations. + Scheduled weekend rotation is necessary to meet patient needs. + Holiday work depending on rotation INDRESPTHER To Apply, please email john_hood1@chs.net Equal Employment Opportunity This organization does not discriminate in any way to deprive any person of employment opportunities or otherwise adversely affect the status of any employee because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, citizenship, veteran status, or military or uniformed services, in accordance with all applicable governmental laws and regulations.
