Title: Speech Pathologist Home Health, Per Diem
Department: Home Health & Hospice 
Location: UMass Memorial Medical Center

Shift: Days M-F 8-430 as needed
Status: Non-Exempt



 
Position Summary:

The Speech Pathologist is responsible for providing speech language rehabilitation services including evaluation of patients and developing and administering a treatment plan.  Provides supervision and oversees care provided by student and or support staff.

 Major Responsibilities:

Diagnostic and rehabilitative clinical speech-language services are provided to both inpatients and outpatients in the hospital and at contracted offsite placements.Diagnostic and rehabilitative services include but are not limited to: evaluation of speech, language, voice, cognitive and dysphagia disorders.Provides patient/family education following diagnostic evaluation as well as throughout and at the completion of treatment services. Completes all documentation for diagnostic evaluations and maintains all records for on-going therapeutic patients. Practices utilizing evidence-based evaluations and treatments. Provides quality, cost effective treatments.

 Position Qualifications:

Must have the flexibility and availability to meet the demands of the position.Must have available transportation for offsite responsibilities. Must be physically able to work with people of all ages and educational backgrounds. Must have good communication skills and the ability to speak, read and write fluently in English.Must be self-directed and use appropriate clinical judgment.

EDUCATION:

Master’s degree in speech from an approved school.

 EXPERIENCE:

Experience in a hospital setting preferred, MBS experience preferred, CFY will be considered.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC. :

MA state license in speech pathology, ASHA certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech, CORI verification.


AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients and customers throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements. 

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments.  The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
