KRON4, The Bay Area’s Local News Station is looking for a sports director to lead its high-preforming sports team. KRON4 is known for our deep committed to local sports coverage. In addition to our nightly newscast sports hits, KRON4 Sports produces the Bay Area’s only local nightly sports show ‘Sports Night Live’ and regional 49ers show ‘The Red and Gold Zone’. This is not a job where you’re just handed a script to read. All our sports talent can write, edit, shoot and produce.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of covering and developing relationships with professional teams. Our sports director is responsible for setting the weekly assignments for the sports department and planning coverage of big sporting events.

This will be a full time, union, exempt position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Produces and presents sports reports for all platformsEnsures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production qualityWrites and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise mannerAssists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating sports programming and other contentResponds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as requiredWorks closely with the sports team to develop comprehensive sports coverageParticipates in promotional activities including public appearancesPerforms special projects and other duties as assignedShoots video for sports reportsSets up, composes and executes video shotsMaintains video equipmentEdits video clips for television broadcastsWrites stories for the website and other platformsInteracts with viewers and users on social media sitesOversees sports department credentials

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum five years' experience in sports reporting or anchoringBachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experienceComprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activitiesFluency in EnglishExcellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when requiredSuperior on-air presenceExperience guiding, directing and motivating othersAbility to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skillsProficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipmentAbility to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyAbility to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solutionValid driver's license with a good driving recordFlexibility to work any shift

Compensation:  $110,000+ to commensurate with experience and skill level
