Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $24.95 - $38.18. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

What you will be doing

Sports Performance Dietitian

Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is seeking to hire a per diem Sports Dietitian whose primary role is to provide nutrition services to a range of athletes, ability levels and ages, focused on, but not limited to weight/body composition management, training and competition fueling, fueling plans for endurance athletes, and gastrointestinal symptoms related to sports nutrition and training. 

The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a collaborative, outpatient clinical setting, that includes other allied health practitioners such as physical therapists and exercise physiologists. The candidate will have the opportunity to participate in community outreach initiatives, as well as having the opportunity to present at professional education conferences.

This is a unique opportunity for an individual with solid testing and training skills as well as superior customer service to join a growing program in a world-renowned academic medical center.

Primary skills and responsibilities include:

Calculate caloric needs based on activity factor calculations, including the use of the Metabolic compendiumInterpretation of metabolic testing data to create endurance fueling regimensProvide pre/during/post training and competition fueling recommendations for a wide range of sports, athletes (from elite to beginner) and desired adaptations (hypertrophy, metabolic efficiency,  etc.)Translate caloric and nutrient requirements into food-based recommendations including meal planning and meal delivery service recommendations, when appropriateProvide client-focused nutrition counselingProvide evidence-based supplement recommendations, when appropriateInteract and provide feedback as a member of a multi-disciplinary team including sports medicine and metabolic bone health physicians, physical therapists, and exercise physiologistsProvide mentoring to other professionals that require nutrition education such as Sports PT residents

Requirements

To qualify you must be a Registered Dietitian (RD) with Board Certification in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) and have New York State certification (CDN). In addition, experience with metabolic data and endurance athletes is required.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s Degree2+ years providing nutrition education to athletic or active populations2+ years experience working with professional athletes or teams
