Sarasota County Government is seeking an intern in the Office of Financial Management department to assist with all areas of Grants Administration. Do you want to increase your project management skills? Expand your finance skills and knowledge? This is a unique opportunity for an inquisitive and self-motivated individual to make a positive impact on the citizens of Sarasota County by assisting with the research, implementation and management of projects funded by federal, state, and foundation agencies.

Job Description:

Intern Responsibilities: 

Ideal competencies for this position include but are not limited to: ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced atmosphere; ability to research, interpret, and report on federal and state legislation; assist in the operation and management of funding and programs according to federal and state grant requirements.

General Duties

Assist the Office of Financial Management Grants team with full life cycle project management of grant-related projectsAttend site visits with county staff and federal agencies such as FEMADevelop and maintain performance metrics regarding grant management within the CountyDevelop and submit financial reimbursement packages, statements, and other required documentation to federal, state, and local agenciesResearch, assess, and document changes in legislation around grant related funding.Research possible grant funding streamsUtilize Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to provide feedback and analysis of data

Non-Essential Functions:

Work Hours:  Flexible schedule available – Part-time or full-time work ranging from 20 – 40 hours/week; Hours will be scheduled within Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Work is onsite in Sarasota County, FL.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:  

High School Diploma or equivalent required.Must be currently enrolled in a college/university (Proof of current enrollment required at time of application.) 

Job Competencies:  

Sufficient personal initiative, confidence and responsibility to own a project and its success.Must have strong organizational abilities and decision-making skillsEnergy and tenacity to stick at the project and always find a path forward to complete it.Temperament to learn--changing behavior whenever something could be done better.Ability to read and follow protocols of project management.Effective communication skills--both writing and speaking.Ability to engage and gain value from those who can help during the project and in using its findings.

About Everything Else

Pay Range: $9.00 - $17.50/hour (Pay rate is determined by year in school/hours completed.)

Internship Duration: Approximately 3 months
