The Role

The SQL DBA will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of SQL Server databases to ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of critical business applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting, with a proactive approach to managing SQL Server environments.

Daily Activities:

Monitor SQL Server environments for performance issues, security threats, and potential failures. Respond to alerts and incidents promptly, troubleshoot issues, and implement resolutions. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as database backups, index maintenance, and statistics updates. Optimize SQL Server performance by analyzing query execution plans and tuning database configurations. Review and enforce security policies and access controls to protect sensitive data. Monitor disk space, memory usage, and CPU utilization to ensure optimal resource allocation. Document database configurations, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Develop and test scripts to automate database administration tasks and improve operational efficiency. Collaborate with development teams to optimize database schemas, queries, and application performance. Stay informed about SQL Server updates, best practices, and industry trends.

The Requirements

•    Design, Installation, Administration and Maintenance of SQL Server Instances
•    Deploy and maintain database standards.
•    Manage database security and database access.
•    Design and maintain database backup and restore strategy.
•    Perform Database restores and assist application recoverability including DR activities.
•    Design and build High-Availability as part of Disaster Recovery Strategy for the Databases
•    Assist in customer application migration strategy and migration activities.
•    Monitoring and Performance Tuning and optimizations
•    Database growth vs disk space available, audits, resource monitoring (I/O bottlenecks, memory pressure, CPU use)
•    Manage Maintenance Plans
•    Create and Monitor backups tasks, perform database restores.
•    Participate in client questionnaires and regular auditing activities.
•    Participate on-call rotation.
•    Additional DB2 or Oracle Database support experience would be preferred but not required.
