Sr Accountant, Sales Tax
Overall Job Summary

This position is responsible for the management and resolution of assigned sales and use tax audit/controversy matters including collecting tax audit related information, proactively evaluating tax exposure, developing and implementing audit strategies to defend tax positions and maintaining successful auditor relationships. In addition, this position is responsible identifying gaps in controls and design, leading efforts to determine the root cause, and implementing solutions in order to reduce future audit exposure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%) Manage all facets of assigned sales and use tax audits including evaluating sample methodologies, analyzing and reconciling data, and developing and executing audit defense strategies. Analyze audit schedules, determine nature of errors, calculate liability estimates, develop audit reserve calculation, present findings and make recommendations to management.  Direct lower level team members in the gathering, analyzing, and organizing the audit support documentation for review by state tax auditors. Conduct technical research related to exemption certificate requirements, evaluate internal controls and processes in relation to those requirements, determine impact on the organization, and summarize and communicate those findings to management.  Consult with cross functional team members and leads efforts to align merchandise stock keeping units (SKU) with Taxware codes and develop sustainable  processes to reduce future audit risk and exposure. Conduct technical research related to sales and use tax issues. Summarize and communicate those findings to management.  Direct lower level employee(s) in accurately accruing use tax on fixed asset invoices. Required Qualifications

Experience: 5 years of Accounting experience preferably including sales tax audit and/or auditing experience.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is preferred.  Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities Strong analytical skills with the ability to draw conclusions from complex data sets and present strategic recommendations in a logical manner. Ability to interact and partner with professionals in various functional areas to resolve complex tax issues throughout the organization. Strong negotiation skills with the ability to establish and defend positions with external auditors. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly advanced skills in Excel. Experience with SAP and Business Objects software is preferred. Experience with Taxware or other tax decision software is preferred.
