Sr Accountant - Statutory Reporting
A commercial insurance/reinsurance provider in the Purchase, NY area is looking for a Sr Accountant within Statutory Reporting. This individual will be working from their Purchase, NY location and will need to come 5 days a week while training, but will eventually move to a hybrid model. This candidate will be working under a CPA and learning about this companies statutory filing process. Candidates need to have strong backgrounds within Accounting/Excel, and will preferably have previous insurance knowledge/experience. The duties and responsibilities include:
o Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory filings, including journal entry preparation, statutory financial statements, underwriting exhibits and schedules, financial accounting supporting schedules, and footnote disclosures.
o Prepare the reconciliation between IFRS/US GAAP to Statutory basis of accounting.
o Prepare investment reconciliations between General Ledger and Investment Accounting provider, Clearwater, and review all investment schedules and prepare footnote disclosures
o Support the statutory financial statement audit process and liaison with internal and external auditors. Ensure compliance with internal controls over statutory reporting.
o Respond to department of insurance inquiries and state exam requests.
o Assist with analysis and draft commentary for quarterly balance sheet and income statement analytics.
o Work closely with senior team members on accounting issues.
o Stay up to date on current and pending changes to statutory accounting guidance and financial reporting requirements.
o Liaise with internal finance teams to gather and prepare quarterly and annual statutory filings for large reinsurance company.
o Evaluate current financial and accounting processes, propose, and implement improvements.
o Assess technical accounting issues related to statutory accounting regulations for appropriate financial treatment.
o Actively participate and/or lead AD Hoc Projects, including process improvements, accounting policy, and procedures documentation.
o Assist with internal/ external audit requests and maintain controls documentation
