Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant will be a critical part of the accounting team and ensuring the accounting department’s overriding goals of accuracy and providing timely, relevant information are achieved.
This individual will be a proactive member of the accounting team and will look to help drive operational efficiencies while maintaining a strong control environment. The position will collaborate across several groups of the business to support short and long-term business objectives, i.e., finalize wind-down, prepare, review, and distribute financials ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, etc.
Responsibilities:
Ensure journal entry submissions are accurate and in compliant with internal policies / GAAP
Coordinate with various departments/stakeholders to obtain the necessary support required to book journal entries timely
Review staff’s or peer’s monthly account reconciliations for completeness, accuracy, and in compliant with internal policies
Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and analysis to share with stakeholders for key accounts
Responsible for financial close activities including month-end journal entries and recording accruals as appropriate
Ensure accounting and finance activities are compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal policies and procedures
Proactively raise issues to Management regarding financial or operational metrics
Identify reporting capabilities and tracking improvements
Lead Process analysis, identify areas of improvement and/or simplification / standardization opportunities, communicate recommendations to Senior Management, and implement
Respond to a variety of ad hoc initiatives, analysis, special projects as they arise
Other duties as assigned
Train, mentor, supervise one or two Staff accountants
Review submission of journal entries by Staff accountant(s)
Qualifications:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting
Strong understanding of GAAP accounting & reporting
Excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
Possess strong task management, attention to detail, and prioritization skills
4+ years of accounting experience
CPA or CPA candidate preferred
Prior audit experience preferred
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite with advanced Excel skills
Ability to multi-task and work independently with limited supervision
Ability to follow through on all assigned tasks and take on additional work as needed
