This role develops and implements strategic engagement with Tribal Nations and citizens primarily for Enbridge Gas Utah.

Tribal Nations and citizens include, but is not limited to, elected leadership, Tribal members, influential Tribal business leaders, Tribal emergency responders, and non-government organizations. This engagement is consistent with the principles contained in Enbridge’s Indigenous People’s Policy.

What You Will Do:

Maintain, cultivate and document relationships and engagement activities with key influential leadership within tribal communities and local organizations near Enbridge assets.

Gain a solid understanding of our business, issues, risks and opportunities associated with respective tribal communities and organizations.

Advise the team of partner concerns and activities. Lead the development and modification of tribal engagement plans and budgets.

Develop and implement strategic engagement with Tribal Nations and citizens primarily for Enbridge Gas Utah, including elected leaders, Tribal members, business leaders, emergency responders, and NGOs, in line with Enbridge's Indigenous People’s Policy.

Own relationships with key influential leaders and work with internal partners within and outside Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability (PACS) (i.e. Operations and Projects Teams) to develop innovative engagement strategies, approaches and tools that align with Enbridge’s Indigenous Reconciliation Action Plan that will improve efficiencies and minimize risk related to the Company and/or projects.

Support US Tribal Engagement Team in providing awareness and mentorship to internal teams within the company on Native cultural protocols, norms, politics and ordinances to ensure the company respectfully engages with Native communities, builds positive relationships, meets regulatory requirements and effectively manages related risks.

Collaborate with the Supply Chain Management Indigenous Engagement team to identify opportunities in conjunction with project teams or Operations regarding Indigenous contracting. Provide insight into community dynamics, capacity and politics, identifying potential local impacts and regional Indigenous participation opportunities and benefits (e.g. traditional ecological knowledge gathering/sharing, tribal monitoring, educational, skills development, employment, and business opportunity initiatives).

Potential for frequent travel and attending after-hours Tribal and non-tribal community events throughout the year.

Who You Are:

You possess a University degree from a related post-secondary program or equivalent. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

7 or more years of directly related work experience in Tribal engagement, preferably in the resources sector, particularly in the energy industry / energy distribution or transportation infrastructure sector.

Knowledge and direct experience engaging with Native communities, including on Native American history and rights, on cultural protocols and norms,  and demonstrated success engaging with Native American Tribes.

Familiar with Native history and culture. Familiarity with applicable government and regulatory requirements, as well as present day issues and community dynamics.

Solid written and verbal communication, presentation and organizational abilities

Preference may be given to a candidate who identifies as Native American.
