Sr Commodity Manager

Job Summary

Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a commodity strategy or strategies that support and enhance the company’s material objectives. Evaluates supply base and technologies to keep Engineering and Operations aware of market trends and changes. Develops and executes commodity strategies for key commodities. Utilizes a clear understanding of the business and technical aspects of the internal Supply Chain procurement/processing/master scheduling functions to organize, develop and manage lean material flow to successfully and efficiently deliver materials to production from an end-to-end ‘procure to pay’ perspective. Provides key leadership involving strategy creation, improvement of core processes, managing complex projects, etc. Utilizes extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, while also utilizing a wide degree of creativity and latitude. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Participate as a leader or materials team member in new process and product development. Develop supply base / commodity strategies consistent with business initiatives and SRM ideology (Supplier Relationship Management). Identify part supply constraints that may impact production schedule and create mitigation plans. Complete supplier and cost/benefit analysis to select the best supplier and optimum supply chain. Create cost models for key commodity areas of responsibility. Negotiate price and contract agreements. Ensure key contractual reductions are realized. Plan, develop and implement tailored development plans for strategic supplier and potential suppliers. Continually optimize supply chain in respect to price, inventory, continuity of supply (COS), term and conditions. Track and communicate global commodity industry trends, supplier and competitor strategies, key commodity cost drivers, economic factors, and opportunities in the global marketplace. Ensure adherence to internal standards and practices. Manage all aspects of assigned commodities – commodity strategies, market conditions, technology roadmaps, and cost creation. Identify means to improve efficiencies/speed of routine work, and lead efforts to implement the changes. Provide regular feedback to manager and direct reports as applicable – promote strengths, identify areas for improvement within the supply chain. Work with team to develop practices that enhance teamwork, efficiency, and effectiveness.  Build consistent team understanding of objectives, standards, procedures, and develop regular and open means of supplier communication (QBR’s, status reports, conference calls). Provide data in multiple formats (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc.) to management team as required. Help establish work schedules with realistic milestones and resources – help resolve resource conflicts. Collaborate with buyer/planners to successfully and efficiently deliver products to our customers. Perform other duties and projects as requested.

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum 10 years’ experience in Strategic Procurement and Commodity Management with proven experience in developing and executing Category Strategies and Vendor Management process for large-scale spend. Prior experience utilizing the Agile system. ERP Systems (e.g., Oracle, other) with an emphasis on MRP systems and demonstrated results in materials shortage management and inventory control. Deep understanding of complex engineering quality issues caused by material or manufacturing processes and related solutions. Extensive knowledge of the fundamentals of purchasing and negotiating.  Results oriented, metrics driven leader with a root cause, permanent and continuous improvement approach. Must be a team player committed to working in a cross-functional team environment and demonstrate ability to work with other functional groups to achieve company-wide goals. Strong demonstrated communication, negotiation, and customer satisfaction skills. Some domestic and international travel is required. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated discretionary professional development in Procurement and Category Management field. CSCP, CPSM, CIPS. Proven cost reduction track record and Project management skills preferred. Advanced skills in using Digital Strategic procurement systems. Spend Analysis, Sourcing, Contract Management, P2P. Superior analytical and computer skills with experience utilizing analytical tools (MS Access and SQL Server preferred) and databases along with an in-depth understanding of manufacturing (MPS/MRP). Mandarin Chinese or Spanish language skills is a plus.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business or 10 + years of related experience. MBA preferred.

Compensation: The anticipated range for this position is $106,000 - $150,000.  Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, and experience.

Physical requirements/Work Environment

This position primarily works in an office environment. It requires frequent sitting, standing, and walking.  Daily use of a computer and other computing and digital devices is required.  May stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities.  Some local travel is necessary, so the ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid Driver’s license is required. Some domestic and international travel is also required.
