Sr Counsel: Tax Policy and Strategic Projects

We are currently searching for a Senior Counsel, Tax Policy and Strategic Projects, who is skilled in handling a variety of intricate tax issues for a global business. The Tax Policy and Strategic Projects team advises tax and finance leadership on long-term tax policy trends that affect Uber's business. The team also works on strategic tax projects in the Uber tax organization, providing technical analysis and support on challenging and important tax issues that affect Uber tax and finance.
**What you'll do**
- Monitor tax policy developments (legislation, regulatory, multilateral orgs) and long-range tax planning landscape for Uber and wider technology space.
- Jump into new projects to provide expertise and skilled legal judgments; consult on deep technical issues; synthesize and communicate complex issues into clear and actionable plans.
- Represent Uber tax policy in trade associations, public engagement, and in front of policymakers.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues on other tax teams. This will include global regional tax teams, tax quantitative team, tax planning and M&A, U.S. direct tax, U.S. international tax, U.S. indirect tax, and U.S. controversy.
- Collaborate with Uber Policy teams, especially U.S. federal policy and U.S. state policy to technical assistance, analysis, and advocacy support.
**Basic Qualifications**
- Minimum of eight (8) years of legal experience.
- J.D. and license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
- Strong tax research and tax analytical skills working with multiple complex areas of the tax law, including some combination of US international tax rules, corporate tax rules, accounting principles for tax, and tax administrative-controversy experience.
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Understanding of core US and global tax policy issues (TCJA, OECD Pillar 2, DSTs and Pillar 1) and tax policy making process (e.g., US legislative process, IRS rulemaking, OECD).
- The ability to juggle multiple projects at a time in an exciting, fast-paced environment, both collaborating as a team to stay in sync and working independently to get the job done.
- Excellent business judgment and high comfort level advising business teams on a wide range of legal issues related to technology and/or software platforms.
- Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative with both business leaders and legal groups, with strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner across functions to build consensus.
- Clear communicator, team orientated, and willing to take initiative while thinking two steps ahead.
- Confidence and flexibility to operate in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
- Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address them.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year - USD$258,000 per year.
For Washington, DC-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year - USD$258,000 per year.
