Sr Counsel - Contracts and Procurement
Valleywise Health System
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, the Senior Counsel, Contracts and Procurement, will provide legal counsel and guidance on procurement and contract issues for a public health care system, ensuring compliance with Arizona state laws relating to procurement, and federal laws and regulations that govern health care entities. The attorney will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to mitigate legal risks, streamline processes, and support the organization’s mission.
Annual Salary Range: $118,289.60 - $174,470.40
Qualifications
Education:
Must have graduated from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited school of law.
Experience:
Requires a minimum of three (3) years of legal experience as a licensed attorney in either a law firm, in-house legal department, or governmental entity that demonstrates a high level of understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certification/Licensure:
Must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona or licensed in another state and registered and licensed to practice law in Arizona within one (1) year of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum of 3-5 years of legal experience, preferably in healthcare law, public procurement, or contracts law with either a law firm, governmental entity, or in-house legal department.
Experience working with public entities, government agencies, or academic medical centers is highly preferred.
Requires knowledge of state and federal constitutional and statutory provisions relating to exceptional health care districts and public entities.
Requires knowledge of state and federal health care laws and regulations, e.g. EMTALA, DNV, AHCCCS, HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid, nursing, medical staff, Requires knowledge of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), state mental health services laws and regulations, general governmental practice, legislative practice, state open meeting and public records laws.
Manages tasks in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment where priorities change quickly; coordinates deadlines, prioritizing work demands and assigning/monitoring work (based on assignment); supervises full-time staff.
Must be able to communicate orally in English with employees, senior leadership, the Board of Directors, clients, and the public in group, face-to-face, and one-to-one settings.
Must have solid analytical and problem-solving skills and utilize the appropriate management techniques to plan, organize, control, and coordinate activities.
Must manage priorities in a dynamic environment and adapt to change quickly and positively.
Must demonstrate ability to be self-directed and excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to work as a team member with peers, other managers, staff, and senior leadership.
Must possess good customer service and communications skills, the ability to work with professionals, and maintain confidentiality standards.
