POSITION TITLE: Senior Database Administrator
REPORTS TO: Manager Database Administration
LOCATION: Pittsburgh, PA
POSITION SUMMARY:
Highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong focus on Oracle and PostgreSQL databases, including experience with cloud-based solutions like Google Cloud SQL. The Senior DBA will be responsible for all aspects of database administration, including planning, installation, configuration, maintenance, performance tuning, security, and disaster recovery. They will work closely with application development teams, providing guidance and support on database design and development. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of database technologies, a passion for continuous learning, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Plan, install, configure, and upgrade Oracle and PostgreSQL databases (including Cloud SQL instances). Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, patching, and performance tuning. Monitor database performance, identify and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks. Implement and maintain database security measures, including access control, encryption, and auditing. Ensure database availability and high performance through proactive monitoring and maintenance. Participate in database design and development activities, providing guidance and expertise on database schema, data modeling, and indexing. Assist application development teams with database-related issues and provide technical support. Write and maintain complex SQL queries and stored procedures. Manage and maintain cloud-based databases, including Google Cloud SQL instances. Ensure compliance with cloud security and compliance standards. Design, implement, and test disaster recovery and high availability solutions for Oracle and PostgreSQL databases. Maintain comprehensive documentation of database systems, procedures, and configurations. Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including developers, system administrators, and business users.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a strong focus on Oracle and PostgreSQL. Experience with cloud-based databases, particularly Google Cloud SQL, is highly preferred. Experience with database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization. Experience with database security best practices and implementation. SQL, PL/SQL, database administration tools. Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or Azure is a plus. Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell. Experience with Monitoring tools such as Newrelic, OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) and how it’s used for database monitoring/alerting. Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Actual starting pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to relevant experience and location.
