This position is part of our Material and Structural Analysis Division (MSD). MSD supplies innovative solutions for microscopy and microanalysis. Using scanning and transmission electron microscopes and DualBeam™ FIB-SEMs, combined with sophisticated software suites, our customers can combine high-resolution imaging with physical, elemental, chemical, and electrical analysis to go from questions to usable data. The Senior Director is dedicated to driving forward the business working cross functionally to proactively lead the North America Operations. The role has direct responsibility for leading the Operations Factory Teams for our Electron Microscopy businesses across North America to successfully achieve production targets as well as quality and cost objectives. This role requires personal accountability and leadership to drive a culture of continuous improvement and build a cohesive team to deliver for the business and the customer. This role is a functional and people leader, aligning business priorities working cross functionally to meet customer needs and support business growth. This leader will drive multi-site and cross functional operational excellence while collaborating across the division to achieve financial performance on P&L and AOP. This role partners closely with the Sr. Director, Operations Strategy Deployment, which is the primary driver of business process changes, strategy deployment and implement STRAP related initiatives to enable the teams that are responsible for the day-to-day execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Set customer-focused, strategic direction, in alignment with the strategic plan for the Division.Prioritize safety, creating a safety culture.Establish collaboration and alignment between various functions and departments to ensure site strategic manufacturing objectives are met.Meet customer satisfaction objectives in the areas of order communications and on-time delivery as well as ongoing quality and reliability standards, partnering with Supply Chain, Customer Service and Quality.Identify and implementing policies, procedures and manufacturing strategies to drive continual improvement in production and performance metrics .Drive continuous improvement and productivity through the use of Thermo Fisher’s Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodology.Lead team to high levels of Operational Excellence, productivity, and inventory turnover through contemporary Lean Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management concepts.Ensure the team is a key partner in the New Product Development process, with the goal of development and on-time launch of high-quality products that meet cost, feature, and quality objectives.Key decision maker for all subjects in manufacturing and logistics operations.Meet or exceed Financial commitments on P/L, profitability, working capital and CAPEX investments.Drive existing and new projects in the region related to STRAP, X-Matrix, Business Development and footprint initiatives.Travel approximately 25-40%.Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, prefer in Engineering, Logistics or Business.8+ years’ experience in manufacturing operations leadership with a strong track record of progression and a variety of functional experiences (supply chain, production, logistics, etc.). Basic commercial acumen is recommended.Solid understanding and experience in High-tech Environments.Proven ability to interact effectively with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams in fast-paced multi-disciplinary matrix environment.Training and implementation experience in lean manufacturing concepts (5S, pull systems/Kanban, DFT, value stream mapping, kaizen) is required.Previous ERP experience with QAD or SAP experience desired.Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement fields and will have worked in an organization with complex products containing both hardware and software is in use with high levels of process compliance and effectiveness.Excellent strategic problem solver with proven written, verbal and presentation skills.High comfort level of interacting, discussing, and presenting to internal/external customersStrong capability in workforce and succession planning, people developmentProven track record of effectively leading change initiativesAbility to navigate in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary matrix environmentAdhere to EHS policies and procedures and ensure a safe and healthy workplace environmentBenefits
