The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team. We are seeking a highly strategic and hands-on Sr.Director of Eng of Physical Infrastructure to lead LinkedIn’s global data center operations as we rebuild our infrastructure and transition to a private cloud model. This is a highly visible and impactful role overseeing LinkedIn's physical infrastructure strategy, spanning the full lifecycle from budgeting and planning to construction, operations, and optimization. Responsibilities: Lead LinkedIn’s Physical Infrastructure Strategy: Oversee the full lifecycle of infrastructure development, from budget planning to daily operations, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and alignment with LinkedIn's long-term growth. Manage a $2.4B+ Infrastructure Budget: Partner closely with LinkedIn’s finance team, including the CFO, to ensure responsible capital deployment and optimal resource allocation for infrastructure expansion. Data Center Operations and Engineering: Direct the Data Center (DC) Engineering teams, covering site selection, construction, build-out, and day-to-day operations, including maintenance and break-fix efforts. Hardware Engineering and Customization: Lead hardware engineering teams focused on designing, testing, and customizing hardware SKUs tailored to LinkedIn’s specific needs and operational requirements. Capacity Planning and Growth Management: Develop and manage comprehensive capacity plans based on traffic, product demands, and annual CapEx requirements to support LinkedIn’s growth goals, including a projected member base increase from 1B to 2B. Supply Chain and Vendor Relationships: Oversee all aspects of LinkedIn's supply chain, including vendor relationships, contracts, and negotiations for critical infrastructure components like compute, electrical, cooling, and networks. Geographic Expansion and Compliance: Drive LinkedIn’s data center expansion strategy, particularly in Europe, ensuring compliance with regional regulations such as GDPR and supporting LinkedIn’s international growth. Technology and Innovation in Data Centers: Champion advancements in cooling, electrical, and network infrastructure to support LinkedIn’s transition to a private cloud, with a strong focus on enabling rapid AI and compute workloads. Basic Qualifications: -10+ years of experience in data center operations, infrastructure management, or a related technical field. -5+ years of experience managing large-scale budgets (e.g., $500M+) and infrastructure lifecycles. -5+ years of technical leadership experience overseeing teams of 100+. -Experience with managing global data center infrastructure, including planning, construction, and operations. -Background in supply chain management, vendor relationships, and contract negotiations for physical infrastructure. Preferred Qualifications: -Extensive experience in managing multi-billion-dollar budgets, capital planning, and cost -optimization in a high-growth environment. -Demonstrated success in leading teams through complex, large-scale transitions (e.g., transitioning from public cloud to private data centers). Knowledge of advanced data center technologies, including cooling systems, electrical systems, and high-performance computing requirements. -Experience with geographic expansion in the data center industry, particularly in navigating regulatory and compliance issues for regions like Europe. -Strategic thinker with experience in capacity planning, workload optimization, and infrastructure innovation. -Ability to work closely with C-level executives, particularly in finance, to ensure alignment on budget and resource allocation. LinkedIn is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range for this role is $227,000 to $373,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor. The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus, stock, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plan.
