Sr Director Data Architecture

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Senior Director of Data Architecture will lead the design and implementation of Pediatric Associates’ enterprise data foundation. This leader will build the single source of truth for membership and utilization, integrating data from claims, EMR, scheduling, contact center, and other sources. This role ensures reliable, scalable, and secure data architecture that powers advanced analytics, pediatric value-based care, and AI initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and implement a modern data architecture (cloud-first, AI-native, scalable, secure) that consolidates and integrates clinical, claims, operational, and external data into a unified, governed ecosystem. Create and maintain member-level data aggregations to track clinical and financial performance at all levels. Integrate disparate data sources (claims, EMR/eCW, scheduling, contact center, reviews, etc.) into a unified structure. Drive provider data cleaning, normalization, and governance. Partner with BI, Data Science, and Clinical teams to ensure downstream usability. Modeling & Semantics: Design conformed star/snowflake schemas, SCD2 dimensions, time-variant snapshots, and a metrics/semantic layer (e.g., Looker semantic layer/MetricFlow/Transform) for consistent definitions across teams. ELT & Transformation: Lead ELT pipeline design (dbt or equivalent) with modular, versioned transformations; implement data contracts, code reviews, and CI/CD for analytics code. Data Quality & Governance: Define DQ rules (completeness, uniqueness, timeliness), anomaly detection, lineage, and data certification; establish gold/silver/bronze tiers and promotion criteria. Performance & Cost: Implement partitioning, clustering, materializations, aggregates, and query acceleration/caching; monitor SLIs/SLOs (latency, freshness, reliability) and optimize cloud cost per query/dataset. Security & Compliance: Enforce row-/column-level security, PHI masking, and least-privilege access; ensure auditability for payor audits and regulatory reviews.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversees data architecture pipeline at the enterprise level and provides directions to Data engineers to implement and scale.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field required. Master’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data management, with significant healthcare industry exposure.  5+ years of leadership experience driving enterprise-scale data initiatives. Proven expertise in Azure cloud platforms (Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse) and modern architecture. Demonstrated experience in building large-scale data integration pipelines and applying data modeling best practices. Strong knowledge of healthcare data sources (claims, clinical, operational) and interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, EDI). Track record of implementing data governance frameworks and quality management processes in a complex organization.  In-depth understanding of HIPAA, CMS, and other U.S. healthcare data regulations.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to define and communicate a clear enterprise data strategy aligned with organizational goals. Advanced proficiency in Azure-based data architectures, Databricks, and data lake ecosystems. Strong problem-solving and systems-thinking abilities, with a focus on scalability and performance. Skilled in leading distributed technical teams and fostering strong cross-functional relationships. Excellent ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-friendly language for executives and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to identify and integrate emerging technologies that deliver measurable business and clinical impact. Deep understanding of U.S. healthcare data privacy and security requirements, with proven success embedding compliance into architecture.
