SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Members of Amtrak’s Electric Traction Department System Operations team are responsible to manage the safety of operations, resources, the configuration and switching of the transmission, substation, trolley, third rail and signal electrification system components. This position plays a key role in the success of Electric Traction System Operations team by ensuring the Power Directors meet those requirements and comply with Amtrak’s rules and procedures. This position also drives our values by identifying, reducing, and mitigating risk to the organization. Disseminates incident information as required to the System Operations team. This role works under supervision and is expected to take a lead role in assignments and deliverables.

                                                                                                                


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

With guidance from the System Operations team, review, update, and audit rules and procedures relevant to Power Directors. Provide root cause analysis and corrective actions to the System Operations team on Power Director incidents. Ensure compliance of all Power Director procedures by performing operation tests & inspections audits. Retrieve and review relevant documentation and voice recordings as required to support Electric Traction Dept. root cause analysis. Become a subject matter expert on various operating practices for all Power Director Offices. Disseminate information throughout the Electric Traction Department as required. Develop and implement Power Director Operating Procedures. Research and develop data for Power Director Congress to review incidents and corrective action plans.

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 6-9 Years of relevant experience preferred in power system operations. Experience in the operations and maintenance of electrical facilities, electrical regulations, or dispatching of power. Ability to function in a stressful environment Ability to shift priorities on short notice Ability to coach and mentor others Ability to analyze situations and problems

 


MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, collaborative, and relationship building skills with demonstrated experience both within and outside an organization. Demonstrated experience in system operations of Electric Traction facilities. Demonstrated operational planning experience. Demonstrated management experience in a matrix organization. Develop and ensure compliance of Electric Traction policies and operating guidelines for electrical system operations. Collaborate with division project managers and supervisors on planned outage requests. Must be able to motivate others and drive for results. Must be able to take a lead role in assignments and deliverables.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Power Director experience in system operations. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

 

 

WORK ENVRIORNMENT:

10 % travel and demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and produce work product. Shift work in 24-hour 7 days a week operation.

 


COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: 

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

 

The salary/hourly range is $103,700-$134,460. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
